"Thought-Terminating Cliches"
  • It ends the argument it doesn't complete the argument.

You've essentially just stopped talking about the topic. No consensus has been arrived at. Possibly because one was not possible.

  • "Thought-Terminating Cliches"
  • The second one seems to be a bit of an Americanism I'm not really sure what it means. I take it to mean there's nothing anyone can do about it, e.g. there is a storm coming and you are not sure if it will hit your house or not, whereas the first one means there's nothing we can do about it but some other human can e.g. above your pay grade/ out of your responsibility.

  • I'm pretty sure cognitive dissonance is not what she thinks it is.

Cognitive dissonance means holding two completely contradictory opinions at the same time. You can't shortcut cognitive dissonance, I don't quite understand what that means.

  • MP uses parliamentary privilege to ask why Lucy Letby story blocked in UK
  • There's no conspiracy here. She's being accused of a crime and there's going to be a trial. The prosecution have to present enough evidence to convict

All that's happening here is that the media are not allowed to report on a trail that's currently ongoing which is standard practice. In the US they do it differently because there are different country, and that's fine too.

There was no reason for him to bring this up other than I don't know some kind of weird political game that he thinks he's playing it's very unclear who this performance was for.

  • Plan to ban sex education for children under nine
  • The Conservatives have heard about culture wars from their friends in the US, but they haven't quite grasped the fundamental principle that it has to be about something that anybody gives two hoots about.

Then they wander around been sad that their voting numbers are down, and they really can't work out why.

  • Raw Milk Enthusiasts Demand Milk Infected With H5N1
  • Technically of course The Black Death was not a pandemic, it was an epidemic. It's just people didn't really move around very much so they didn't notice.

It kept returning to Europe multiple times because the focal point of the disease would move somewhere else for a bit and then come back.

  • Schools won't be allowed to teach children that they can change their gender ID, reports say
  • Even if this was an actual problem, which it isn't, this is not the way to deal with it. Children ask all sorts of awkward questions, not answering their question is literally the worst way to deal with it. They'll just ask the question more loudly in a very clear voice in the middle of a crowded Tesco. It's best to just answer them and move on.

You can tell no Conservatives ever actually raised their own children.

  • Spoiler text renders as white on white when revealed

When you reveal a spoiler the black rectangles go away and it then renders the text in white, but on a white background (light coloured theme) The text renders is exactly the same colour as the background and so you can not see it unless you highlight the post, this renders the background of the post as light grey and there is just about enough contrast difference to now read the text.

When spoiler text is revealed it should render in the same colour as normal text. I'm not sure why it's white.

    See images below for demonstration.

    !spoiler text is hidden

!spoiler text has been revealed but is invisible

!text post is highlighted and now you can see the spoiler text rendered in white
