Veritasium's new video on Jumping Spiders is having its sponsor Better Help on blast in the top comments. Should we hold content creators to account?
  • To some degree, certainly! If at some point it comes out that a certain sponsor is just total shit, a content creator can be made aware of that. Although, with all these things, it is not always as easy to just drop a sponsor i suppose, there is always contracts involved and all of that. So not expecting a creator to be able to drop a sponsor all of a sudden.

  • What do you wear for work?
  • IT person as well, generally just jeans, sneakers (or other shoes) and some kind relatively plain shirt. Whatever is comfortable and does not contain any shocking images.

  • What's your most unpopular opinion about music ?
  • Haha! This is the kind of information my brain tends to retain, while it makes me work hard for any really useful information. ;)

    You're welcome!

  • What's your most unpopular opinion about music ?
  • Haha yeah it can be hard! Like needing to memorize every (sub)genre on https://everynoise.com 😱

  • What's your most unpopular opinion about music ?
  • Was technodeath a typo? Because mixing Death metal with some kind of techo / electronic genres is available within the death metal scene. But i guess we are all referring to tech(nical) death metal here.

    Additions of some bands that i really like: Wormed, Septycal Gorge, Putridity, Defeated Sanity, Archspire.

  • What's your most unpopular opinion about music ?
  • The Polish school of death metal (with those early Decapitated albums) really brought a new wind to the scene. Other bands around that time worth listening to: Yattering, early Vader, Devilyn, Dies Irae, all from Poland if i remember correctly.

  • What todo app are you using?
  • All the apps... and none of them work for me.

    But one that is nice, powerful, and still free usable without working with a 'hello world build a todo application'-app and seems to work for people that actually use todo applications.

  • What's your fave "No thoughts, head empty" music to listen to?
  • I saw the topic title and thought: Shpongle! i put it on and scrolled down to see this comment.

    Do any of you feel tired ALL the time?
  • A whole lot of things can be going on. Some vitamin levels can be low, it can be ADHD which just seems to get worse with age, and can also explain the anxiety. Of course capitalism plays a role.

    But best thing is, get your blood levels checked, if it is a simple deficiency it is 'easy', otherwise you have to dig deeper, but of course, getting sunlight, try to go to sleep at a reasonable time, and eat healthy are things you could start doing right now.

  • [Bug][ FIXED ] local lemmy-ui - translations
  • Was a theory i had as well, but copied whatever was there, and even afterwards ran git submodule init && git submodule update (from the docker install section), but all without luck.

  • [Bug][ FIXED ] local lemmy-ui - translations

    UPDATE: running pnpm run translations:generate (and also the other translations tasks, just to be sure) fixed the issue.

    ---

    When trying to setup a local Lemmy instance (for development), the lemmy-ui repository throws an error when trying to start the dev server.

    I followed the guide: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/contributors/02-local-development.html

    When running pnpm dev to start the dev server, it presents me with two errors:

    ```bash
    ERROR in ./src/shared/services/I18NextService.ts 14:0-40 Module not found: Error: Can't resolve '../translations/en' in '/home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/services' resolve '../translations/en' in '/home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/services' using description file: /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/package.json (relative path: ./src/shared/services) using description file: /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/package.json (relative path: ./src/shared/translations/en) no extension /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en doesn't exist .js /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en.js doesn't exist .jsx /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en.jsx doesn't exist .ts /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en.ts doesn't exist .tsx /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en.tsx doesn't exist as directory /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en doesn't exist @ ./src/shared/dynamic-imports.ts 6:0-69 48:17-41 @ ./src/server/index.tsx 16:0-65 47:2-22
    webpack 5.91.0 compiled with 2 errors in 14393 ms ``` I do see that these files nor the folder exist where I18NextService is trying to locate them. But i also see in the root a lemmy-translations folder.
    I am able to get it sort of working by updating the paths in I18NextService, but i guess that is not the preferred approach.
    Any Krieg officer who goes into action without his shovel is improperly dressed.
  • It's just their preferred type of weaponry that made its way (through memes) into the lore. Exactly as @Kerb@discuss.tchncs.de says, the Krieg (Krieg even means 'war' in German) are based on WW1 trench warfare and 40K has taken this to the extreme (as with everything)
  • Just here to celebrate my cake day! (4 years!)
  • I ran into it when it was just starting up. It was almost not active at that point, really an alpha idea of what could become a reddit like system but federated. You can imagine that it was just a few people test posting.
    A lot of work has been done by a whole bunch of people to actually getting this far over those years. Which is, however you see it very commendable.
    [Fixed] Adding a 'mailing list' filter
  • This worked as expected! Thank you very much!
  • [Fixed] Adding a 'mailing list' filter
    I am trying to create a filter within Proton Mail, that adds a label 'mailing list' whenever Proton marks an email as from a mailing list.
    It doesn't seem so easily possible as far as i can tell and I don't have the time (or will at the moment) to try and create it with a Sieve filter.
    Is there an easy way to do this?
    So Protonmail / ProtonVPN is not a good option?
  • I check in here now and then. ;)
    So 5 months later, I still use Proton Mail, still loving it. Use it in combination with Proton Calendar which also works really nice and just started really using the Proton Drive as (in the future) an alternative for Google Drive now that they have added encrypted photo sync. That feature (for Android) is still very early and i have been in touch with the helpdesk for some of the issues i am running into. But they do really feel like issues because of it being a very first version.
    So for now i would say that their Drive option is quite robust and works very nice and can really serve as an alternative for one of the other big parties (yes i still do a lot with Google Drive and Dropbox so to fully migrate that will take 'some' time).
  • So Protonmail / ProtonVPN is not a good option?
    I'm trying to get rid of my Google dependency and one of those steps was moving over to Protonmail. Now in the past few days i have been picking up signals that even Protonmail is not as clean as it might be.
    Does this really impact the privacy of how i use email and so is moving to Protonmail a step forward from Google, or is Protonmail just as bad?
    If so, what could be alternatives?
    ------ edit:
    Some of the alternatives being mentioned in the comments are:
    Email:
    VPN:
    edit 2 (2023):
    There seems to be some new activity around this post. At the time of writing the post (2 years ago) there were some stories going as user @UnfortunateShort described in their comment. This made me question the best options available at that moment. Currently i am still a Proton user, using their Mail and Calendar service, and Mullvad for VPN.
