how do i efficiently attach audio to an image
  • This might depend on where you’re uploading/how you’re playing this file, but you could add a thumbnail to the audio file? I know that vlc and mpv will play your audio file and show the thumbnail, but I’m not sure if YouTube would take that. Not sure if this is exactly what you’re looking for but it is pretty efficient.

  • Which Desktop / Window Manager is most secure?
  • Could you provide some criteria for what you’re looking for in the way of security? Wayland is far better for security than Xorg, but it’s hard to say how much it varies between wayland compositors. I can’t imagine it would matter too much, but depending on how much security you’re looking for, choosing more minimal software is probably better. Rust can be better for security but I’m not entirely sure how much can really get compromised through poor memory management in a window manager.

  • zsh or fish for an intermediate Linux user?
  • Been using fish for awhile. I don’t need much more than smart autocomplete (which is built in) and some small QOL plugins. Sometimes it sucks because the syntax is slightly different than bash or zsh so you will have to get used to that.

  • Is it immoral to "1-up" an already existing FOSS project?

Since we're on lemmy, I'll use this as an example. If someone were making a GNOME (GTK4 + libadwaita) Lemmy frontend, and I were to start working on my own Lemmy frontend for GNOME, thereby competing with this already existing project for users, is that wrong? To make things more interesting, what if I wanted write my Lemmy client in Rust since I didn't like the original being written in Python? To make things even more interesting, what if that project is slow in development due to the developer not having a lot of time? My gut instinct is that it is immoral. I feel like I would be taking away a project that the author had sunk some amount of time in, hoping to impact others in a positive way. I understand there is no guarantee that my project does better than theirs, but I should still be conscientious of the possibility, right? Let me know your thoughts FOSS community.

    Can’t wait for Slide!

I used Slide for Reddit as my primary client, so I’m really glad I get to return to it :)
