Deep sea amusement park by pen
  • OK, so I've gotten lazy and this is only my second post in six days. I'm trying for quality over quantity here, and it took me a while to figure this one out. But here we go...

This is an illustration for a song by Yuno about swirling your hand around in a puddle and watching everything loop around in circles. It's therapeutic. Vocals are done with a Vocaloid voice named Yukari Yuzuki but...this girl is not Yukari Yuzuki. She's an original character, I guess.

  • Any ideas of communities that we could reach out to suggest them to move to lemmy?
  • Hi! !FloatingIsFun@fedia.io mod here. Thank you for the shout out! I'll try to participate here from now on.

Sub.rehab can show you subreddits that have verified official communities on Lemmy, Mbin, and others. You can import your followed subreddits from Reddit and find their Fediverse counterparts quickly. It's the best place I've found for Reddit users to find communities to follow here, even if a lot of them aren't very active and their Reddit versions are still active too.

I think Lemmy and Mbin's interfaces scare some people off. A lot of users don't know that Lemmy has plenty of other third-party interfaces like Photon, Alexandrite, Voyager, and of course, Old.

Mbin lacks these for now, but makes up for it with the rarely-used custom CSS for magazines, just like Old Reddit, and custom JS too! I use mine to create a two-column layout with big thumbnails! Unfortunately, the CSS doesn't federate and is only visible when viewing it on Fedia itself. I'd love to have even a Lemmy-like banner image on other instances.

For the daily word puzzle Wordle, !wordle@lemmy.world and /r/Wordle both benefit from having a bot post a discussion thread for each day's puzzle as it's released. I go there every day and post how I did on the day's puzzle. I still post and moderate on the Reddit one every once in a while, but I tell them about the Lemmy one while I'm there. The recently-created !dailygames@lemmy.zip does this for several daily puzzle games, but I'm not sure if it's a stronger community or just more cluttered.

Of course, we could remind Reddit users that the Fediverse doesn't have ads! That was a huge selling point for me.

And when a Reddit community decides to go all-in and move here, they could consider a full screen redirect link like Old Reddit /r/Mei. I thought about using that redirect myself on my old subreddit.

  • Kiki of the Valley of the Witches by Redlark
  • This art was posted 16 years ago, but the Valley of the Witches just became official this year as section of Ghibli Park. I thought this Kiki/Nausicaä mashup was pretty practical. A tiny witch on a broom with a bazooka would be a great air defender and difficult to shoot down. Hopefully Kiki's carrying some flares to deal with any heat-seeking missiles that come her way.

Any ideas of communities that we could reach out to suggest them to move to lemmy?
  • /r/Columbus too. We tried with !Columbus@midwest.social and a few others, but they all died out after a few months.

To be real, the regulars at !FloatingIsFun@fedia.io are completely different from the regulars I had at /r/FloatingIsFun. I couldn't get most of them to follow me to the Fediverse, and the community I built on the Fediverse mostly benefited from the added exposure of a Lemmy bug that pinned all Kbin posts to the top of /new for two hours.

  • Oops, I actually teased two different posts for today, so here's the other one. On Sonic the Hedgehog's official Japanese Twitter, telekinetic hedgehog Silver is delivering packages to atone for the game he debuted in, but it's no use . This fan remake is looking good though.

  • I warned you! This not-subtle ad for Levi's jeans is the dumbest crap I've posted since Fat. For this Jackass reject to float like that, those pants would have to be inflated to about a 15-foot sphere. It's dumb fun, though, and the music is good.

  • Now I'm thinking of a character like Primer who can choose her abilities for each encounter by equipping different colors. Primer's such a cool character.

  • That's right, it's a CD single from that VTuber Kanade Izuru. The Linkfire page has links to the CD on Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Apple Music, and Deezer. All the most popular VTubers are apparently musicians too.

  • My last post didn't go over all that well, so here's some anime-ass anime art for a VTuber from Holostars. Oh man, you guys are not gonna like what I have planned for Sunday. It's more bogus than Luma's Dream Machine. More than this.

  • June 16 Is 6 (Mu) 16 (Juuroku)… Which Means “Zero Gravity Day”!! by yolozyaTOM
  • I've started keeping track of some anniversaries and goroawase days. June 16 can be read as mu-juuroku, which sounds like mujuuryoku, the Japanese word for zero gravity. Incidentally, June 16, 1963 is the day Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space. Oh, and today is also Father's Day here in the US, so shout out to all the other dads I've got floating around here.

Next week, we've got Sonic the Hedgehog's birthday on Sunday and UFO Day on Monday. Let's try to get relevant floaty things posted here on those days.

Circling the Washington Monument by Lincoln Beachey
  • Wait, is it tethered? It's a poor quality photo, so maybe it is? Beachey and Knabenshue were out there flying that dirigible every afternoon and evening for a week, so maybe wind was a factor? Like, if they were worried about crashing into the Washington Monument, the thing is made of marble bricks, so it wouldn't do any damage to the monument.

  • Circling the Washington Monument by Lincoln Beachey
  • 118 years ago, America's first stunt pilot flew circles around the Washington Monument and then landed on the White House lawn to try to greet the President. Nowadays, Washington, DC has all these capitol-specific airspace rules that diidn't have personal dirigibles in mind. Drones are banned city-wide too. It's not to say that this stunt is impossible to do legally nowadays, but good luck getting permits to do this.

Levitation Spells are Hard by Cockatrice_Cure
  • It's a misfire, but from the cover of that Levitation 4 Dummies book, I think she nailed it! Things like her hair, clothes, and candle flames behave like gravity is still kind of working.

  • Huh...? by Noranucoo
  • Indeed, if it's anything like the Vegetable Orchestra, she has to buy fresh leeks the day of a performance. Rotten leeks are probably poorly balanced and harder to spin. Unless those are hologram leeks, because those don't rot.

  • Huh...? by Noranucoo
  • Oh, that girl out there? That's just Hatsune Miku, flying around like she does anytime an artist feels like drawing her doing so. I'd be flying out there too, but I'm stuck doing boring real world stuff with boring real world physics. Maybe I'll get a paraglider someday.

  • Yes, please! I'd like Soutaku to try to identify posts that don't credit the artist in the title or have any source links. I realize this will probably also trigger on posts that aren't art, like photos and videos, and that's fine. That's how SauceNAOBot worked on the old Reddit version of Floating Is Fun. I've invited you as a moderator, so go ahead and make any changes you need on the magazine to get the bot working.
