Ride Now TPU tubes are bomb proof

Radar Tail Light and heart rate monitor from Magene (although I haven't tried the Garmin ones)

Glasses from Kapvoe (shit quality and risky in a crash)

OG-Evkin seat post (quality is good, but the way the seat attaches is prone to seize and difficult to adjust)

  • Airbnb bookings dry up in New York as new short-stay rules are introduced
  • Not surprised that NYC is overcorrecting once again. I work in the industry and out of 2500 apartments we estimate around 20 are tenants involved in short term rentals. The last two we caught were even people that rent multiple rent-stabilized apartments and run their own business on Airbnb. This not only puts a pressure on unit supply in general but also specifically removes affordable housing opportunities for those in need.

At least with the buildings I'm involved in, the bigger issue is the state removing any ability to raise rents on vacant rent-stabilized units. We have at least 60 units sitting vacant indefinitely because it would take over 5 years to recover the cost of fixing up the unit and getting it rented. This rule was meant to stop shitty landlords drom taking advantage of tenants but if their focus was on tenant protection laws instead of completely removing all incentives to invest capital in old units they wouldn't have swapped one issue for another.

I'm sure there are legitimate uses for Airbnb that have now been completely eliminated and we'll see unintended consequences down the line.

  • How do you consume Muesli?
  • It's Switzerland. While I don't know the answer to your question, having grown up there and in the states, I wanted to compare the cereal industries and how they tried to promote a healthier lifestyle. Then this happened: (from Wikipedia)

An early proponent of the germ theory of disease, Kellogg was well ahead of his time in relating intestinal flora and the presence of bacteria in the intestines to health and disease. The sanitarium approached treatment in a holistic manner, actively promoting vegetarianism, nutrition, the use of enemas to clear "intestinal flora", exercise, sun-bathing, and hydrotherapy, as well as the abstention from smoking tobacco, drinking alcoholic beverages, and sexual activity. Kellogg dedicated the last 30 years of his life to promoting eugenics and segregation.

  • Once we can get brain-device-interfaces implanted into us in order to sort of link our brains with a computer/phone, we probably won't get that information as pictures appearing in front of our eyes.
  • The scary part is how many people just don't seem to care. Hey, did you know you can get cheap bullshit on Temu? The idea that you'll one day have to compete for your job with someone with an implant is scary, not for them because they signed up at betterhelp.com to have a professional talk them off a ledge once a week. Hopefully they won't be much of a threat because of all the single people in their area. Also, boner pills anyone?

  • Just started Strattera. I feel superhuman, but have some questions about the side effects.
  • Here's my vague understanding of why this happens with melatonin; if someone can correct me I'll have learned something.

Taking supplements your body naturally produces, like melatonin, creatine, and some weight loss products in large doses makes your body turn off its own production. You're also training your body to process and live with more than it needs, and considering it always wants to reach homeostasis, you end up needing more of it to have the same effect (like many drugs).

Back in the 90's a lot of people on diet pills ended up gaining a lot of weight back once they stopped taking the pill because their bodies took a long time to produce the same chemicals naturally, having essentially been overdosed for a while.

  • The era of cheap streaming is officially over
  • That and movies just suck nowadays. This is partially old man yelling at cloud stuff but also true since the death of DVD's means studios won't take risks anymore since they can't recoup funds after a poor box office.

  • Running with Plantar Fasciitis & footwear

So I started with Plantar Fasciitis in both feet earlier this year and used running and cycling to finally lose weight and get in shape...ish. My right foot is back to normal but still dealing with pain in my left foot.

While regular running seems to be helping me, I ran my second 5k race and had to limp for the next 12 hours in excruciating pain. It seems the intensity is what makes running go from helpful to counterproductive.

I've seen running shoes and fitting services advertise their consideration for plantar fasciitis and wondering what this exactly entails. As far as I know the issue is mostly connected to my calf and lower leg and I never have any discomfort while actually running. Do these shoes do anything besides having more cushioning for the heel? I'm in Hoka Clifton 8's and can't imagine any more cushioning.

Does anyone have experience with buying shoes that "address" this or have any other insights?

Obviously seeing a doctor is the most important factor but I'm curious what experiences people have outside of that.

    Beginner watch recommendations

Started running once or twice a week ever since my company signed up for a corporate 5K and I'm interested in tracking progress and pacing myself without pulling a phone out (I use a Garmin bike computer when cycling).

I'm not looking for a full featured smartwatch, just a cheap way to track pace and distance, possibly a map option if I decide to spend a bit more. What are your recommendations for a beginner watch?

    Thanks!

    Shortening shifter cable

I've turned my Poseidon X into more of a road bike and swapped a 46cm bar for a much more comfortable 40cm. The microshift groupset has an externally routed shifter cable that was purposefully long to accommodate a bar bag, but it's now almost hitting my left hand. If I were to cut the cable shorter and feed it back into the derailleur, would I need to index my gears or can I just adjust the tightness with my barrel adjuster and be on my way?
