Microsoft inks deal to restart Three Mile Island nuclear reactor to fuel its voracious AI ambitions
  • The amount of waste is tiny. Coal plants cause more radiation than nuclear plants because of tiny amounts of radioactive matter in coal. You need to burn so much coal the amount of radioactivity is higher per unit of energy.

Until we shut down all coal plants we shouldn't even think about closing nuclear plants

  • Valve appear to be testing ARM64 and Android support for Steam on Linux
  • Desktop mode is kind of funky, though. You need to open steam to type on the on-screen keyboard, lol. App store got patched and it's better, but sometimes the apps get stuck downloading and I need to open up the command line to make them install

  • Three Mile Island nuclear plant set for restart on Microsoft AI power deal
  • It used to take a computer with a ton of ptocessors to beat the best human. Now your phone can do it. When your most common tasks can be done on a phone NPU, and fewer GPUs need to be in the cloud it will get more efficient

  • US health system ranks last compared with peer nations, report finds
  • Yes, I believe it. But when I went to urgent care with my ex, they got her in in about an hour.

Overall, my experience with the US system is that it's on average faster than the Canadian one if you need urgent care.

  • No One Is Buying AMD Zen 5 CPUs, So What's Going On?
  • I bought the same things from the same store in 2017 as today. The $5.99 yogurt is now $7.99

There's two different brands, 4 lbs and 5 lbs and they have the same price

Other things went up similarly, like half a gallon of organic milk was $4.99 and now it's $5.99

I did not see a single thing that went up 50%, not one

  • Source on inflation being underestimated?

Also if something like housing grows in price faster than inflation, then something else has to grow slower than inflation for the inflation number to be what it is. No matter what category you pick that grew faster than inflation, it doesn't matter to the overall increase in prices by definition

For example, grocery prices have increased slower than inflation. It doesn't actually make my argument any stronger, since it just means other things increased faster

  • For a blood clot I've had to wait like 16 hours in Canada, but that's because for every examination and consultation you had to wait in a separate queue. Like talk to a doctor after 8 hours, get assigned to wait for a ultrasound, wait another two hours, go into the room, wait half an hour for a resident, become a test subject for half an hour, get a real doctor later, wait for them to consult me for another few hours, wait another hour for the script, etc.

In the US at least they did everything in one shot for my first blood clot, after it my wait they did everything in one go and let me go

  • About that...
  • Doesn't let you just do whatever you want. I turned off the windows firewall in windows 7 and went on with my life. Windows 11 wouldn't let me download updates with the firewall off.

  • About that...
  • I'll tell you why I use it: to use open source software. I noticed whatever freemium program I used on Windows that was cool eventually got enshittified and became spyware. Like fucking clockwork, the author of uTorrent sold out and all the new versions became cancer

Linux has better support for a lot of open source software, you can use a package manager to download most of it, and flatpak for a bunch that's not there

It's just so much easier than trying to find the official site for the program you want.

  • BitcoinSV shows that there's a big issue with huge blocks

I've been syncing for days and I'm still 100,000 blocks away. I needed to turn on pruning and a page file just to be able to process them, but it takes forever to download and verify these blocks because they are absolutely huge. At this rate it will take months to sync

I didn't have this issue with bitcoin cash, it synced in a few days.
