A necessary lesson
  • The real comments is always in the meme

  • What's the best concert or live performance you've ever attended, and what made it unforgettable?"
  • Awesome you got to see them as well! They got big really fast, I saw them a year later at Alcatraz festival and that was at least 20x bigger and they were headlining IIRC. At that concert they had a canon shooting 666$ bills, I took some snaps for you. Tucked away between my record Ceremony and Devotion, the full live set just as I remember it but recorded in San Francisco.

  • What's the best concert or live performance you've ever attended, and what made it unforgettable?"
  • Similar experience seeing Ghost in de Vooruit in Ghent. Must've been 2016, back when they were called Ghost BC. Don't really follow them much anymore, but that venue was on fire.

    Edit - Also amazing:

    • Florence and the machine: amazing voice
    • Ocean Wisdom: whole club bouncing up and down
    • Macklemore: creates a rarely seen vibe with everyone
    • Cypress Hill: such legends even after all these years
    • Hooverphonic: insane voice and they are sometimes guided by an orchestra, so much power
    • Parov Stelar: with an orchestra as well and my god it's really something to experience live

A lot of artists sound way different live, I've been disappointed as well but these definitely stand out.

  • How's Samsung's One UI these days?
  • It's great IMO, combined with Samsungs GoodLock suite you can stylize anything about the phone, I used to root my phone for this level of customization.

Edit: I would buy the zenphone because of the size and package, but OneUI is genuinely good

  • How to hide comments that mention a specific word ? (on lemmy of course)
  • Voyager allows me to add filter/block keywords but I assume that's only for posts. Don't see much use in implementing the same feature for comments though.

  • AI chatbots spread falsehoods about the EU election, report finds
  • Just today someone said to me with full confidence "but that's not what ChatGPT told me, and they've always been right"

  • Microsoft starts testing ads in the Windows 11 Start menu
  • Genuinely a great day for linux

  • Legend has it that each of these would hold a book with everyone's name and home address, for anyone who wanted it.
  • I think they eventually figured out mass doxxing isn't such a good idea

  • Spelling wasn't part of the curriculum
  • This has to be satire lmao, "Joe Byedon" I meaaaaaan

  • The moon went in front of the sun
  • Absolutely incredible, well done having that much definition on those solar prominences as well.

  • Don't forget!
  • Are you in the US? Then either guns or lawsuit

  • Don't forget!
  • Pretty accurate, but I would say a realistic nerd with an audiologist sister-in-law

  • action park rule
  • Makes sense, it's more of a bobsled feeling than a loop feeling.

  • Don't forget!
  • Both can be true!

  • Don't forget!
  • Friendly reminder to not use pokey thing into those grills, use a mounting putty, stick it on there and be satisfied when you pull it off. Same thing if you have wireless earbuds where one ear is a different volume.

  • action park rule
  • A while ago I went to Terme 3000 in Slovenia, they had a looped style waterpark ride. Just as crazy as is looks, I guess the tilt angle prevents major injuries? Because that slide has been open for a long time. It took no effort to clear the loop as well.

Edit: For those curious, it's a pod-style release you can see on the image, the floor disappears under your feet. The green one next to it is one of the steepest in Europe IIRC.

  • Three monitors, and i feel insulted
  • Two headsets ago I bought a G933 from Logitech, mainly because it had an AUX input on the USB-dongle which I thought was pretty neat, but that one had big unnecessary RBG strips on the sides of the earpiece. The most ridiculous usage of RGB I had seen till date. But I programmed an interface between CSGO and the RGB on the headset to indicate my health so the people watching from behind us at a lan could see it.

Anyway, I've always preferred white LED's and RGB can rarely replicate pure white.

  • ‘Sexting’ with robots: How artificial intelligence will be able to ‘read’ our arousal
  • Let's create a society where people want to live and participate in, not fuck their toaster for the entire day.

4-organ transplant for toddler at Leuven university hospital

    > Surgeons at Leuven University Hospital have transplanted four organs into a 2-year-old toddler during one single operation. It is the first time that all the abdominal organs of a toddler have been transplanted during a single operation in Belgium. The stomach, liver, pancreas and small intestine were all transplanted in the young patient in a single operation.

    > The two-year-old toddler had a genetic disorder that caused a nerve problem in the intestines. As a result, the child could not absorb food in the usual way but had to do so through a catheter. The prolonged use of the catheter in turn caused infections. On top of this, the baby had liver problems. All this meant that all abdominal organs had to be replaced. The operation was a success.

    > The Flemish Peace Institute on Thursday launched a new online knowledge portal on gun violence in the European Union. Gunviolence.eu features an incident monitor that provides a global picture of firearm incidents in all member states.

    > The platform's incident monitor lists up-to-date information based on media reports from more than 350 local news sources. The tool will also generate a monthly trend report.

    > "Thanks to the sophisticated algorithm and self-learning nature of the AI technology used, this monitor will become a crucial tool for a more robust and effective approach to firearm violence by law enforcement," said director Nils Duquet.

Smart street lighting cuts bills and helps nocturnal animals

    > In the Antwerp town of Willebroek the decision has been taken to continue a project to reduce street lighting for the sake of nocturnal animals. Grid operator Fluvius and the Flemish Nature and Forestry Agency have joined forces to deploy "smart street lighting". It means the municipality can save up to 40 per cent on its energy bill but "on top of that, we expect several bat species to benefit too" says René Meeuwis of the Nature and Forestry Agency.

“Cricket was invented in West Flanders”

    > The ICC Cricket World Cup in India is reaching its climax. Unfortunately the Belgian national team didn’t qualify this time round, but if Hassan Shah, the president of Cricket Flanders, is to be believed the team stands a good chance of qualifying for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, when cricket returns to this event. Belgium finished second, behind England, in the European Champions League. If we win in Los Angeles cricket will truly be coming home as the sport was, of course, invented in West Flanders in Belgium.

    > It was during the Middle Ages that cricket was first invented in West Flanders. Hassan Shah likes to describe the sport played at this time as “primitive cricket” and it is indeed Pieter Breughel, one of the great Flemish primitive artists, who provides conclusive proof of the sport’s Flemish roots in the background of his painting “The Harvesters”.

    Welcome to ø Lemmy ø, a self-hosted Lemmy instance!

    Welcome to ø Lemmy ø, a self-hosted Lemmy instance!

I sarted this Lemmy instance because I believe in the importance of having a decentralized and open social media platform. The ability to spin up your own server and contribute to a space where people can come together to discuss and share ideas without being bound to one platform or userbase is what has proven to be the most robust and progressive way of creating a digital agora.

This Lemmy instance is still under development.

    What is Lemmy?

Lemmy is a federated alternative to Reddit, which means that it is made up of a network of independent servers that communicate with each other. This makes Lemmy more resistant to censorship, improves transparency and gives users more control over their data. Here you can find a list of all active and federated instances sorted by popularity

    Federated?

~ Anyone can host a server ~ Servers host instances ~ Instances host Communities ~ Communities host wonderful people ~ Instances can communicate freely between eachother This is the federation

What makes Lemmy and any federated platform so interesting is the ActivityPub protocol. This allows Lemmy, which is a content aggregator social media, to communicate (or Federate) with other types of social media, such as Mastodon (a twitter microblog style) and PeerTube (video hosting). Meaning any instance of the Fediverse can independently read each others content, without the necessity of having to use different apps and/or accounts.

To get started, you can start browsing communities! Find any Lemmy instance to create an account and Subscribe to Communities you find interesting or even create your own and start sharing content.

    Why 0d.gs?

Short URL's have always intrigued me, and have owned quite a few. With ICANN explicitly prohibiting them, it's tough to find TLD's not only allowing but also having them available. 0D also has a significant meaning within my main interest field.

    Any plans?

I am planning to develop on ActivityPub and this server, stay tuned!

I hope you enjoy your time on ø Lemmy ø!

Note: This instance is open to anyone, but at this moment it is not yet possible to register here.

Update: You can now register on this instance!
