Yeah, itβs not worth it. Hopefully I can get the communities I liked there started here!
Thatβs a good question, Iβm not sure! Whatever you guys can think of.
No I completely understand! While we are different, Iβm a Black American, Iβm struggling to get my family out of a crappy area as is, imagine what would happen when Trump is president? Not to mention the majority of his cult members, who are horrible as is towards Black folks and any other minority groups.. His cabinet picks..? Supreme Court..? So fun.. π
My bestie, despite being born in the US is Guyanese, so Iβm really hoping that she can stay. If she leaves, I wouldnβt know what to do.
I figured Mastodon might have something but I was surprised to hear that itβs biggest black-led instance was closed down after loads of harrassment. Iβm tired of this happening.
No no, you gave me a much needed reality check. Just saw articles about minority groups being run off of some Fedi platforms and itβs very disheartening. Although, Iβm glad to see instances like Beehaw and whatever else make sure that everyone has a seat at the table if that makes sense.
almost entirely off the table on a filament string. Can you believe it? I wish I had taken a photo of this mishap.
Woah! No I canβt!
Mostly looking for instances for Black Fedi users, Iβve been looking on my own and canβt find much. Much appreciated!
EDIT: Found some! Please DM me if interested. Theyβre approval only of course!
No no, I get it! Whatβs terrible about it? If itβs okay to ask.
Yeah, Iβve never been there mentally, but Iβm doing okay right now. I like listening to music, drawing, photography, reading webcomics and a bunch of other creative things.
And suddenly all is well.
I feel at peace, I often take things on the internet too literally (in person too lol). The whole "touch grass" phrase that many people use doesn't really resonate with those of us who are neurodivergent. I'm just weary of the online world, but it's refreshing to see platforms like Lemmy and others in the Fediverse allowing us to control the content we engage with. It's not just about the content, the audience is different as well.
Whew! How are you guys today?
Thereβs some Italo Pop in there too. All of my wraps have been solid, quite proud. π
A mix of Afrobeats & J-Pop.
This is hilarious to me. π
EDIT: OMG, Iβm dying here, one song would talk about how kawaii someone is and then another song would talk about humping stuff. π

Fun post! I practice Hoodoo, which is Afro-American Folk Magic. It encompasses various West African spiritual practices under one term and is based on the belief that nature β trees, plants, and similar entities β has spirits that deserve our respect. This practice involves conjuring spirits, connecting with the roots, honoring our ancestors, divination, and offering praise.
Iβm still learning, but recently the women who have shaped me into who I am today chose me through their spirits (This is called mounting). I want to make them proud. While working with spirits can be a bit intimidating, my culture teaches that you cannot engage with βthe rootsβ without understanding them, and there are as many benevolent spirits as there are malevolent ones.
Iβm not entirely sure how this will come across, but I believe itβs best for this group to remain as it is. I understand that some may disagree, but Iβve been feeling uncertain about the term βPOC.β Not every one of us will share the same experiences, and I think itβs perfectly acceptable for those of us who wish to create spaces that reflect our individual cultures. I believe we can coexist positively, as long as we maintain respect for one another.
I don't really see it as such, so I'm just going to say agree to disagree.
I'm on the verge of stepping away from Reddit (I might stick around to moderate some communities but won't be actively engaging with the content). Iβd like to bring over the things I enjoyed from Reddit, specifically some communities I liked. I'm curious about how well they would do here or on an instance like lemmy.world. Most of the communities I participated in on Reddit were black focused, which often brought in trolls or upset users. π
Recovering from the flu. I'm just glad I can breathe again.
i tried to do a flip, it didn't go so well.
what made you go for a flip?
while it's not helping me much, i wanted to have a way to run away from smartphone hell and i just keep running back.
this is still a cute lil phone though.

βGreat oogly moogly, Iβm a racist.β
- Moi.
Thatβs not funny, but the delivery is.
.
I'm taken aback by the views expressed in this post, especially in a community focused on Philadelphia. I want to clarify that I'm not harboring ill-will towards every white person. However, my experiences with racism have left me with trauma, and I'm not yet ready to confront those feelings or be in inclusive spaces. For now, I prefer to surround myself with people who understand my struggles, and for the most part, thatβs my own.
The recent election results have only reinforced my concerns. I'm so disappointed and feel that it's essential to acknowledge the ongoing issues faced by Black America. To the white folks reading this, I urge you to be allies, not obstacles. If your black friends are open to your support, offer it. Donate to organizations working towards a better future for Black America, and educate yourself on the challenges we face.
Here, Iβll say it β I donβt believe America is progressive one bit, Even outside of what we face, the LGBT+ are still fighting for their rights as well. Itβs insane, but this is where we are right now, and for most of us, myself included, I really donβt see things getting better but I will try to be optimistic.
Using Lemmy again after a year of absence. What just happened? I was just on a post of mine on that instance and now nothing will load. Is the server down? π
So Iβve practically argued up and down the thread, but after several panic attacks Iβm one foot out of the door with Reddit but hesitant to leave as there are communities I enjoy there that I donβt think moved to Lemmy. The question was asked on my cityβs subreddit and I had people try to frame me into being a racist, mock my trauma with white people, and try to minimize the effects of racism that follow us all in the current day. Iβm tired, man.
I know not all white folks are bad but some are making me wish to not interact with them at all. Iβm sorry.
