  • I like the taste but I also like flavors that no one seems to (notably bitter and astringent flavors. For example, I like my dark chocolate to be at least 75% cacao and usually drink liquor neat).

    With whiskey and other aged liquors (dark tequila and dark rum), there are flavors behind the astringency that can vary based on cask wood, mash (in the case of whiskey), anything that was infused into it, and brand.

    You can taste these flavors better by mixing a splash of water (preferably distilled water, to avoid adding any flavors from minerals in the water) into it
