For the love of God do not ever go to their community in any case.. If you need technical help literally ask anywhere else.. If you go there, you'll end up hating GOS you've been warned
Oh brother tell me about it. They talk like they are the final word on computer security lol
F-droid acts as a trust for all the apps you download through it, which means if F droid is hacked, hackers can push fake update to all the apps. It is an issue, but not the biggest concern of average joe. Although F-droid should take it pretty seriously.
But I think hating on them is not the solution....
At least they could like not be paranoid and hostile....
Oh shit I missed the "no"
Fuck that's sad....
As long as it doesn't get dissolved into pure hate.
I completely understand, but this only adversely affects you if f-droid getting hacked is in your threat model. And not everyone have that.
It's sad that so many good projects is plagued by this crap. Like did we forget about the whole "respect other people's opinions" thing?
I would like to not delve into infighting and would like to avoid it
So I've been in the rabbit hole of android privacy for some time, last I joined the GrapheneOS community but let's just say that they doesn't have a "healthy" opinion about other projects like f-droid.
So I am looking for generic communities that focus on mobile privacy that doesn't have drama or toxicity or "extreme opinions". Any suggestions? I prefer chat based communities like matrix or simplex instead of like reddit or lemmy.
What is the best cloud storage that gives a nice balance between features and privacy? I know you can manually encrypt files to use any provider, but I would prefer an open source E2EE for the sake of convenience.
Currently I have heard about the following:
- proton
- filen
- sync
- icedrive
- pcloud
(Not including GDrive, Onedrive etc..)
I will checkout Elex, already have technomancer. Can you suggest some more, possibly a list?
Thanks!I am interested in journey and severed steel from first look. Any recommendation for sci fi setting, like technomancer or chorus?
Actually playing Technomncer, their earlier release
I 'd like to get some AA (not AAA) games to play as I tend to like games in that category the most. If anyone has good suggestions, or better a full list of games to check out, that would be very appreciated.
I look into all genres, but the most I like is FPS, Action RPGs, and if possible good open worlds.
Ok explain to me how a biological "wheel" would work
I see mostly half life and bioshock only
Helldivers and sifu in particular getting a lot if attention lately... Will check it out
Hello, I guess everyone knows the current state of AAA games in general, so I am looking into other game markets. I have looked into indie games , but while I do like it, I feel the budgetary constraints and dvelopment limitations are a limit to indie games.
Does anyone can suggest good AA games or AAA titles without crap in it? My go to genre is FPS, open world games and story based games in general.
Also, no need to mention popular games, I am looking more for "hidden gems", if you will. Thanks.
I do believe there is a carrying capacity, but not because they might put regulation. they already try as hard as they can to limit piracy, just look at new DRM softwares.
But the problem is if piracy become too big, the corporation s will no longer have enough incentive to make the product/servixe at all, and at that point they will just stop. For example, gaming. None of the main company has a passion to make more games despite what they say, and the moment they feel it's not worth it, They'll just kill the whole industry.
So piracy is dangerous in which it might act as a de incentivsor to large corporations, because they care only about money.
Lately I was trying to record some gameplay from my laptop using MSI afterburner. The game was old and was easily hitting 100+ FPS, so I recorded with x264vfw with fast settings at 90FPS.
The game dropped to around 60-70fps, and the CPU almost immediately hit 100°C and throttled to like half the clock than normal. Is this normal? The CPU in question is i7 12650H, normal clocks are around 4.2GHz, at worst case during recording it dipped to 2.7GHz.
What can I do to improve this?
Installed grapheneOS on my pixel (finally) the other day. Actually was loving stock, until it got corrupted due to a bug. Had to factory reset to boot up again. Anyway, used that opportunity to install GOS.
NGL I do miss adaptive features and now playing, but I am liking GOS more and more day by day. Better battery life despite not having adaptive features, more security options like sensor permission and scopes, auto reboot if not unlocked feature and all that.
I use GPay and my bank app on a secondary profile. works seamlessly. Some UI improvements and adaptive features and it will be on par with the stock pixel experience itself.
It seems like yet another good messenger app has become shit. I am of course talking about wire. I REALLY like where it didn't need my phone number to sign up, unlike signal does. Also they heavily market it towards corporates and governments.
Back when I first started to use it, they had the old UI. It was good looking, it had a lot of normie fun stuff like scribble and GIF (I can live without it but always a +) and it worked fine at start. It didn't need my phone number, so it was a BIG +. So I started to use it with my friends and family.
After finally convincing them to join here, issues started popping up. Messages aren't being notified to the users. I mean fun stuff is good but THE ONE THING eveey messenger MUST have is to NOTIFY THE PEOPLE. I tried turning on websocket connection, helping my peers troubleshoot and all but NO. NO NOTIFICATION WHATSOVER TO THEM, or rarely they get a delayed one.
Left it temporarily in hunt for other apps. Session was too buggy in connecting to nodes, simpleX is a bit too hard to connect with links and stuff, briar is also like simplex, so after long time I came back to wire in desperation hoping they have fixed this, as again IT IS THE ONE THING A MESSAGING APP MUST HAVE.
But nope. NO NOTIFICATIONS. It came to the point I can't communicate with them unless I SMS them (I don't use whatsapp). And finally, I took the decision. I apologized to them and deleted my wire account. Thinking for now let's f***ing use signal (the other option is whatsapp so yeah).
WHY WE CAN'T HAVE A SINGLE GOOD APP THAT BALANCES BETWEEN CONVENIENCE, USABILITY AND PRIVACY? Is there any app, even paid ones that fits as a perfect alternative? (By payment I mean crypto based, otherwise it's basically as bad as giving the phone number)
Hi! I wanted to buy a budget gaming laptop at around ~800 USD (equivalent). Currently checking out a gigabyte 3060/11400@ 850$. Is this priced right? Shoukd I look for better deals? Also, what about gigabyte laptops, are they reliable? Should I buy it? What brands should I look for, if not?
I am planning to buy a laptop around ~900$ (equivalent) budget. But I am not sure to recognize good deals. I currently have my eyes locked on a gigabyte one with 3060/11400H.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what to look for? Also gigabyte good at making laptops?
