Mitch McConnell escorted away from cameras after freezing during a news conference
  • Look around, Helen. American politics can't get much worse, so if it's a bloodsport they want, it's a bloodsport they'll get.

If you think the answer is to be as morally bankrupt as you think your opponent is, you are ignoring your own supposed values.

edit: How very, very convenient that you don't even live in the US and so you'll never be directly affected by Mitch McConnell's actions and have the luxury of finger-wagging at those of us mired in his shit, all the way from the other side of the fucking ocean. How very convenient indeed.

Your are right. But American politics have a way of being everyone’s business and influence a lot of people - people from the EU included. I see this influence on our political system, and it is not pretty. The idea about not playing by any rules is just sad; if you have no compass you are truly lost and don’t really work for anything.

Side note: I am amazed that you think my nationality excludes me from having an opinion on this. It highlights the problem with a community called ‘politics’ on lemmy.****world only about American politics - and apparently only for Americans.

  • I am not going to reply to everybody. But most of the comments - yours too - underline my point.

For me, politics is about creating something better together. Alienating others in the way that's being expressed here achieves absolutely nothing. It creates no improvement, only more hatred and division.

One big problem with American politics is the polarization between the individuals who should be collaborating. You too are part of the problem with this approach and almost every comment in this thread is just fuel for the fire for someone else.

  • Most of the comments here are examples of what’s wrong with American politics. How can you, despite your political views, watch this video and be so spiteful?

I dislike, disapprove and disagree with the man on every level. But I do not enjoy watching this.

  • UNESCO cathedral in Odessa after Russian missile attack
  • The Kremlin really do everything in their power to be as evil as possible. I know this is ‘just’ a building and that thousands have lost their lives, including one more civilian this time, but why bomb a UNESCO Heritage Site?…

  • What’s a skill that everyone should have?
  • Critical-constructive thinking (as described by Wolfgang Klafki <3). Boy would the world be a better place if everyone could think for them self, and not only criticise but also ‘build something’ better.

  • Reddit now won't let non-logged in users see subreddits until they've been "reviewed"
  • I find the size quite pleasing. Sure there are more posts and stuff to see, but here it’s possible to actually have a conversation with someone and not have your comment buried in 3k other comments.

But that being said, I would like to see Reddit crash and burn, so businesse practices like that doesn’t become more common.

  • Impressive. It’s surreal to hear Johnny ‘sing’ those lyrics.

As for your questions, I don’t really know… I think whatever the answer may be, overlaps with the SAG-AFTRA strike going on I US.

  • China mandates that AI must follow “core values of socialism”
  • I would argue every technology represents the values of its creators. The fact that Meta hid the toxicity of Instagram and let their practices continue reflect their values in their product.

Not that I agree at all with the Chinese government, but I think it makes a lot of sense to regulate and give developers a direction - or moral compass. EU does it as well.

  • TIL that Robin Williams had gained a reputation within stand-up comedy circles for stealing jokes.
  • I learned this while listening to the podcast ‘Den hvide væg’ where comedian Anders Matthesen talks with his friend and co-comedian Thomas Hartmann about their careers, which touches on overlapping joke material. If you understand danish, I highly recommend this podcast. Otherwise you must make do with my subsequent research and link to The Independent ☺️

Without these dots, the glass could become loose and eventually fall out of the frame. These frits are also there for aesthetic purposes.

How do I manage my inbox?

I will soon start a new job where I expect to receive significantly more emails than I do currently. So far, I haven't had a system in place, except for marking emails as unread until I respond and occasionally using flags.

I would like to change that practice, now that I have a clean slate. But how do I start managing my inbox?

I use Mac Mail and would like to continue using it. I know how to set up rules and create smart mailboxes etc., but I can't really see the potential.

    Thank you!
