Seeing a lot of this lately...
  • The entire premise is BS because Biden has a list of accomplishments from infrastructure to debt forgiveness, progressive drug guidance, progress in gender/race equality, departments like the ftc and irs being competently run again with actual resources, to judge appointments. Hmm I wonder to who's benefit it is to ignore all that and label him "not Trump"?

  • Scarlett Johansson denied OpenAI the right to use her voice. They used it anyway.
  • She did not indicate anything of the sort, just that she did not want to take part in it. Beyond that is speculation. She is asking for documentation proving they did not use her voice without permission to train the AI. That's perfectly fair.

  • I'm differentiating this type of genocide with the type Palestine will undoubtedly perform if the shoe was on the other foot, hence why the issue is not simple.

Lemmy keeps trying to push this idea that if the fighting stopped today and there was a ceasefire or peace, that Oct 7 wouldn't just repeat at a later date. How many decades have we played this same song and yet the small fringe community here wants to pretend it will be different this time?

And no matter how you want to frame that train of thought, or try to label it fascist etc, not agreeing to make peace with Hamas is not the same as condoning genocide. The fringe minority you claim is still in power and they still have hostages. They still enjoy the support of the Palestinians as they did on Oct 7. Hamas made Gaza a war zone, to not be against Israel fighting in said war zone is not supporting genocide.

  • I'm not sure where you see any evidence of Hamas needing to change if they theoretically won the conflict. They absolutely would inflict a genocide of given the chance. To deny this is naive at best but most certainly just dishonest.

  • The complex part is that, if you stop the "genocide", innocent people will still die (Oct 7). And if somehow this side you are protecting wins the conflict or even just gets the upper hand, then there will be a real, old fashioned type of genocide where they won't be swayed by world opinion.

  • "before Uber, we had underfunded public transit" well we still do, this is a public problem not a private one

You can classify it however you like but Uber made it better, if only for a while. No matter what you think the problem is or was it clearly wasn't going to change on it's own.

"before Crypto, there was no Crypto" ok granny, the rest of the world had bank transfers

This is something people who do not do international transfers (ignorant people) say. Bank transfers with up the ass fees and exchange rates decided by the same people. Crypto came along and rates became more competitive, showing there is demand and allowing services like Wise to come around.

"AI is the future" no, what they're calling AI right now is a giant scam. the tech will come, but this aint it

Again a comment from the ignorant. You can be pedantic and call it"not real AI" but generative AI and LLM is in use now and billions are being spent too build up the infrastructure. Companies and governments aren't doing that if the payoff isn't there.

  • Not really accurate, just very cynical.

All those disrupters did their job and either broke up monopolies or forced industries to adapt where they would have otherwise been perfectly content sitting on their ass and doing nothing for the consumer.

Cabs/Taxis - artificially controlled in number to keep fares high and service sucked.

Crypto - try to remember before crypto, the idea of cashless was non-existent. Want to make international transfers? Pay up the ass in fees and at rates they choose. Crypto forced companies to do better with digital currency.

Generative AI - is the future and will propel innovations we have not even considered.

Admittedly Airbnb is the only"disruptive" tech that isn't so great and has more serious consequences, but I'm all for the hotel industry having more competition.

We can argue the current state of Uber/Lyft and crypto isn't great, but they started off well and did disrupt in good ways for the consumers.

  • When they tell you the economy is booming, always ask them whose...
  • 45 million with 1.8 trillion debt isn't even a "problem". The meme is just throwing out big number vocabulary trying to be scary.

That number averages out to 40k a person. 40k after 4 years of college with long term low interest to pay it is not done huge problem. The problem are for people who got scammed by for profit colleges and those with ridiculous levels of debt, and this administration is addressing those.

  • Modern apartheid.
  • I don't agree with your analogy.

What I said was more along the line of, "America electing a black president is a major step to eliminating racism, and it wouldn't happen overnight." I'd point out that I'm just fixing your analogy, not that I am making that statement.

Part of the systematic change requires one side to not want the complete elimination of the other.

  • Good kiddie pools in Eastern Tokyo area?

Anyone know of any really shallow pool areas with slides in Eastern side of Tokyo that I can take my toddler?

Been thinking about Arakawa Amusement Park, but haven't really found much else.
