What’s the worst piece of technology you’ve ever owned?
  • Absolutely. I use my tablet almost exclusively as a media device but I do feel it could be so much more. It is nice though to use it while my phone is charging overnight and not wasting battery on the phone while traveling.

  • Why 1,000 Homicides in St. Louis Remain Unsolved
  • To add onto this, St. Louis is similar to Baltimore where the city and the county have split. The city isn’t like almost every other city in America. The city numbers don’t have the more suburban calmness and reduced crime to easily compare across other cities. The north of the city is definitely dangerous, but as I understand it every city has a more run down dangerous area.

  • Easy metrics dashboard for multiple systems?
  • Exactly this. We use node exporter, Prometheus, and Grafana at my place of work to get node metrics across our K8s cluster for CPU, memory utilization, file system space, etc.

You’ll have to do some searching and tweaking of existing dashboards, but Grafana is crazy good

  • Big Milk has taken over American schools
  • It’s also helpful if you’re on a specific diet and can see the breakdown. Example being putting on muscle, you’re supposed to eat 1.2g per lb you weigh to help gain muscle mass (obviously while doing the required work).

  • After successful animal trials, human trials to begin for tooth regrowth drug
  • I can’t say off the top of my head. Power tripping is the best first guess I have. I kinda equate it to anything that could help people live longer. Why don’t they give out insulin at better prices so people live longer and buy more stuff? That’s logically the smarter move, right?

  • Biden announces 100% tariff on Chinese-made electric vehicles
  • You’re kinda skipping over a few things as well as something the previous comment mentioned.

    1. Weather. I live in a pretty big metro area that has freezing cold winters and sweltering hot summers (with high humidity).
    2. Cargo space is definitely something to think about. There are a lot of families that have to drive to a store for a family’s amount of food for the week
    3. Long distances to get to anything in the suburbs amplifies issues 1 and 2 (including usually no pubic transportation to help)
    4. The previous commenter mentioned they don’t want a giant SUV and just want an affordable electric car.

All these things are a reason cars are a huge necessity in most of the US. Yes, getting to an area where we can all mostly use 2 wheels would be great, but we should recognize that doing better is a great step forward instead of shooting it down because it’s not perfect.

I say all this as a person who works from home so I don’t have to worry about a commute, has a small car for necessary trips, and does my best avoid unnecessary driving and makes sure to carpool at every opportunity.

  • Arrowhead CEO says Helldivers 2 balancing patches have 'gone too far' recently: 'It feels like every time someone finds something fun, the fun is removed'
  • To add to this, I didn’t buy premium pass that came with either the extra warbond unlocked or 1000 SC (can’t remember which), and I have 140 hours in the game and have unlocked every warbond with earned SC (I have almost 1700 in the bank as well). If you run 2 and 3’s you’ll farm them up pretty easily

  • Bitwarden has launched a new authenticator app
  • Also they have weird behind the scenes integrations into accounts even if they are just supposed to be regular 2FA. You can read stories about Twitch not playing well with other 2FA until 30 days after you remove Authy. I don’t want those kind of shadow integrations and I should be allowed to switch apps as I see fit
