Disco Elysium Successor Dev Says He Is Being Sued By The Others
  • I mean in this case it was their company at the start. Like they get (or got) money from it in a way that the usual developer doesn't. And in this case it's because of a shitty, greedy action we have a pretty easy solution to. That being piracy.

  • What are some downsides to immortality that most don't think of?
  • Nobody is answering the prompt lol. Everyone says all of this shit all the time.

You live long enough to never feel at home. Sure the loneliness sucks or whatever, but who do you root for at the football game?

Having to buy new shoes for the rest of eternity. You know how much work I've literally just put into finding shoes that 1) don't suck and 2) aren't made with slave labor? It's impossible. Drives me insane. I'd found my own shoe company once I become immortal rich just to fix that problem alone. Maybe other stuff too we'll get there

I suppose on that note: it seems like a really bad idea to become a public figure after a while. Like you obviously don't want your immortality found out. You have to have like illuminati power before that point though, but it could happen at any time. Like if something happens and you become a news item (i.e. helping someone out and a video goes viral online). Not saying everyone is all that close to going viral, but over a sufficiently long lifespan you're effectively rolling that dice a lot.

  • Adobe execs say artists need to embrace AI or get left behind, and all its future products will have generative AI.
  • Well sure but also what does that even mean? And inventions have fallen into obscurity or failed to reach adoption for their target audience. The issue here being that artists are not the target audience of GenAI, it's anyone who pays for art. Dont know why Adobe is pretending otherwise here.

  • The Pentagon Wants to Use AI to Create Deepfake Internet Users
  • I think the saving grace of the Internet is in the small holes that arent populated enough for these big actors to care about. If you're influencing a nation, you probably aren't going to inject your AI slop into a tiny proboards or like the forum on Gaia Online.

  • Official poster for "The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim"
  • first I've heard of this show, so forgive me if you've heard this before. But. Aren't all LOTR stories generic, because "generic fantasy" (as we know it today) was defined by LOTR in the first place?

At least, any LOTR story that would blend with the original texts/movie. Peter Jackson's even on the poster, though IDK what his relationship with this work will be. I'm sure you could make an out-there story set in middle-earth, but I'm skeptical that it would be recognizably LOTR.

Depends on if you want it to be recognizably LOTR ofc

  • Youtube has fully blocked Invidious
  • What's the traffic on invidious? Like, while I don't necessarily agree with the ad-block-block, the profit motive makes sense given their ubiquity. But are there really enough users of alternate YouTube frontends that Google is capturing any meaningful profit? Especially when developer hours are expensive and could be used elsewhere on more valuable projects?

  • Magical equation unites quantum physics, general relativity in a first
  • No shade to OP. Something like this isn't likey to trip BS alarms unless youre already aware of how big this should be. and it's the kinda thing that isn't sexy enough to grab public attention, which lends some credence.

like, I read a headline like, "FUSION MAKES POWER NOW, FUSION POWER PLANTS EXPECTED NEXT YEAR" and I know it's BS. But part of that is the way it promises to affect your life, and it does do in terms of Fusion, which enough people would recognize so as to make their eyeballs valuable.

This article has neither of those really. So yeah. No shade.

(Edit: guess the words "magical equation" is a pretty quick tip off too lol)

  • Magical equation unites quantum physics, general relativity in a first
  • Pop sci

The direct article: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0927650524001130 (Jan 2025)

    Reddit chatter about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Physics/comments/1fbl3aw/on_the_same_origin_of_quantum_physics_and_general/

Might be LLM bunk. If you're consuming science news, then first: I recommend PBS Spacetime and second: if a quantum gravity was actually formulated, you'd hear about it there first. It might actually be exciting enough to make CNN.

More to the point though: this sorta thing is too good to be true. Plenty of things are, and are still real. But even still they bear a second glance. This one doesn't pass the sniff test.

  • Boobplate (Ironlily)
  • The problem with boob plate is how it deflects attacks. There are plenty of places on that armor where a spear jab would deflect upwards toward the neck area.

Flat isn't really what you want either for these. When the weapon deflects and slides off to a side, that steals a lot of the energy from the impact. If the weapon strikes a flat armor, it would be much more likely to damage the armor. That might mean caving in the plate, or fully piercing it. Neither is great. (And even if the armor withstands the hit, it might knock you on your ass, which could very well be a death sentence)

There's usually some room in these sorts of armors. unless you're tiddy is comically big, I'm skeptical that you'd need a great deal of accommodation. But even if you do, the armor shouldn't look like booba from the outside.

Something like this should presumably work, but I'll admit I've never had boobs inside of a suit of armor.

  • Reminder that the 30% steam tax is absolutely greed. Gabe is a libertarian and charges it because he can get away with it. It makes games worse by affecting the equation measuring what is profitable to make. Gabe doesn't care about that, and that should be taken into account when considering if you actually trust him.

  • Valve attempts to deal with jokes, memes and ASCII art reviews on Steam
  • I wish it was rarer is all. The joke got old after it was 4 out of 5 reviews with just something like "my girlfriend said she'd buy me this game if this review got 1 million likes" or a big ASCII Heavy giving thumbs up.

YouTube comments are like that too. Everyone wants to be funny. Say something real.

  • Civil servants cannot wear ‘fetish gear’ to work, minister confirms
  • Well, the article itself dedicates a section to how she's been targeted for "gender ideology", which is dog whistle for "trans". Calling non-cis gender expression a "fetish" is another dog whistle. Those two points in combination make her trans-ness relevant, even if the author isn't going so far as to explicitly call out that this anti-trans behavior.

  • the internet is just... Such a shitty venue for these conversations. I have friends in the real world who disagree with me. If someone is being nasty online I feel no compunction to spend the brainpower on them. Especially as I continue to struggle with the deluge of bad news and it's affect on my mental health.

Block away, for your own health and well-being.

  • sorry to that guy in remnant 2 who I couldn't help get alchemist :(

I dont honestly expect you to see this, but it was fun enough I thought I say something in a public space.

If you're a tuskan raider who was working with a gal doing belly flops and holding a big gun, that was me. I didn't think touching the world stone would change the map and make alchemist inaccessible, and I was hoping if we made a point to go back and intentionally die that the other guy in your game would see what was up.

I'm usually a solo player, and very rarely a mic player so I enjoyed the chance to hang out in a low pressure, no mic environment. I just wanted to mess around with my big ol engineer gun and enjoy big dakka. Thanks for putting up with me being actually incompetent, it was a good time :)

does Adderall lose potency after a while?

Like most folks with ADHD I have some spares for situations like the recent shortage.

Every so often it seems like the pill isn't really doing it's job. I start to wonder if I'm building up a tolerance, and need to ask for an increased dosage, and then suddenly I'm doing fine again.

Well, I was going through that recently, and I realized I just switched to my newest bottle. Now it feels just as strong, if not stronger than it used to be. As it happens, I tend to have some spares from days I forget and whatnot, so it's been maybe 2 weeks. That also means this last bottle was over month old, too. I wish I could remember if I'd just changed to the new bottle the last time this happened too.

I'm using Walgreens, and the shape of the pill changed last month, so maybe there's a different formulation? I just keep going through this feast and famine of medication efficacy, and Itd be nice to know if this is a problem I can actually solve without going to a higher dosage. Idk, maybe I'll keep them in the fridge while Im not using them or something.
