LineageOS is currently installed on 1.5 million Android devices
  • I can't confirm if all features are working, but possibly. My case is that I have LineageOS on my phone and my son has an Amazon tablet that I've used Fire Toolbox on to install Google Playstore and services. I'm able to approve/deny apps for him to install (I get the notification on Family Link on my phone), but some things aren't working because I'm having trouble with Play services on the tablet.

  • Why Legal Immigration Is Impossible for Nearly Everyone
  • That's worse than my story, sorry they had to go through that.

I married my wife while I was living in her country, Georgia. Then I came back to the U.S. and started the process for her to come. It took 17 months. I didn't need a lawyer for it. We did later try to get a visitor visa for my mother-in-law and it got denied. I always say that if I had it to do over again, it would have probably been cheaper and quicker to fly them both to Mexico and then cross the border.

  • Advice on helping a loved one through alcoholism?
  • I've been thinking about getting Allen Carr's book "Quit Drinking Without Willpower". I used his book " The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" to stop smoking in 2008. I had smoked for almost 30 years and then quit immediately after reading that book, with no cravings.

  • What's your favourite gear?
  • I have a few ratchet straps I've never used for anything. Same with some rope I bought, but we've only been able to camp a few nights in the past month. I'm hoping to a lot more in the next year. I just bought a cheap folding saw and an axe. I want to buy good quality equipment, so I've been watching video reviews, etc looking for good options for axes. I've found that brands like Fiskars, Estwing, Gransfors are good choices, to name a few. I'd like to have a longer, heavier maul for splitting and then a smaller one for kindling.

I have a long list of things I want/need. Right now, near the top of my list after axes are: more tarps, better lantern(s), percolator coffee pot(currently using a kettle + french press), a coleman stove perhaps, and a bigger tent and a bigger tarp that I can tie to some trees and put my tent and chairs under if needed. And new boots!

edit: should add also my iron skillet! I love it a lot more when camping than using at home.

  • Can lemmy be used as a blog (with comment section)?
  • If you decide to try the rss-to-html.py, let me know if you want some help or to see what I changed. I don't know python well, but I did change a few things in it to get it to work right for me and to include the photos. Or if you come across anything else that does similar, I'd like to have a look at it.

  • Can lemmy be used as a blog (with comment section)?
  • on my pelican generated website I have the rss feed of my mastodon account. I have a script that downloads & converts the rss and then pelican runs and regenerated and includes that on my site. Something similar might work with your idea for comments.

  • Your Gmail Account (and other e-mail) Has Unlimited Addresses - Useful For Seeing Who Leaked Your Address to Spammers
  • I use aliases on my own domain. For example, for lemmy I might use lemmy@mydomain.com or for my bank i use mybanksname@mydomain.com. Everything goes to the same inbox. There have been a couple times with job applications where I've had to reply and then they find out I'm not really indeed@mydomain.com but I guess I could set that account up if I feel the need.

  • The History of Linux Mandrake
  • I found out about linux in 2001 while using mIRC on Windows 98 and telling someone about all the crashes and BSOD I was getting. They recommended I try linux. Someone offered to burn Mandrake 8.0 cd's and mail them to me. I used it for about 2 years before I first started distro hopping.
