If they’re hunting atheists, then they will also be hunting all non-christian religious folks as well as ‘heretical’ christians and everyone who is not white, cis and straight. There are….waymore of us than there are of them. We can be smart and protect each other.
Appeasing them is dangerous. I see this line of thinking a lot, but it has never led the dems to victory and it has repeatedly compromised our own values and degraded trust in the party. We cannot and should not cater to the worst people in the room at the expense of our own morals. It is wrong, but it is also a losing strategy.
This is super cute aestheically. Did you use a regular stapler?
Fwiw, I am harshly critical of most elected dems but I have never considered not voting. I think I and many people hold our allies (for lack of better term) to higher standards and get angrier when they fuck up. So I think a lot of these posts are just that. Harsh criticism of a candidate =/= not voting for them. People are strategic about voting pragmatically, they’re just also very frustrated with the dem establishment’s behavior.
Yes. Not personally familiar with analog horror, but I am of the opinion that the answer to “should I start a thing based on my niche interest” should (almost) always be yes.
100%. The educational channels didn’t really pick up until I was an adult, but I think I would have been a better adjusted kid and probably a more functional student if I had those things at a younger age. (Though the comedy of early YouTube was pretty rad).
That is.. irrelevant? Misanthropy doesn’t get you out of the basic obligation to be decent to other people, including people who live in faraway places. Your rhetoric here is gross and racist. I commented because I thought you might not realize that. My bad.
Seriously this. Whenever we get close to elections, people who care about any issues at all are blamed for having any criticism at all of the dems while the shortcomings of the party and the huge, avoidable, deeply embarrassing mistakes that powerful people within it make go completely uncommented on.
I think you can make this same point without trivializing peoples suffering. You are talking about human beings. It is not “excessive whinging” for people to be less numb than you are, even if you disagree with them about whether or not that makes Biden a bad candidate. Like those are real people.
Youtube is imperfect but it’s a sprawling place filled with a vast array of cool stuff made by all kinds of people. I struggle to see this as a bad thing. One company cannot and should not own any market forever. Disney isn’t entitled to being kids’ go-to forever.
I don’t blame them at all, their working conditions are untenable and I wouldn’t want to work for Local Healthcare Monopoly either. But it feels like if you can even find any doctor at all in my area (and many people can’t) it’s just temporary and always in question. I really liked this person, too. They said they are going to reassign me to someone else when they can, but they don’t know when or who. I feel so stressed. It’s almost comical how much things have fallen apart in the past several years.
The worst is when a specialist confidently repeats known false information to you. Like, easily debunked by the most cursory glance at a state health department website type stuff. I have started bringing print outs about my illness from reputable sources to appointments with me just in case.
The worst part of being sick is not my symptoms. It’s having to interface with the healthcare system.
A sensible, too-little-too-late rule, probably full of carveouts and exceptions, that I nonetheless feel really relieved to see. Delayed and watery regulation is better than none, I suppose.
I’ve gotta say I don’t think it’s wise to diagnose people like this. Diagnostic categories are imperfect, heavily influenced by social norms and prejudices, and used to categorize and control people just as often as they are used to help people get needed treatment. Trump is a bad person. We know that without a doubt. I think trying to label it as an illness, or debating if a certain condition is or is not responsible for his behavior, misses the point (and kinda ignores how the dsm’s very messy model of mental illness categories functions in practice.) Some people suck, no clinical explanation needed. Diagnosis is for when you are alone with a therapist trying to figure out what you need. It shouldn’t be a shorthand for making inferences about strangers, or papering over abusive behavior. Diagnoses are socially determined and have a history of being weaponized against people who, say, have not serially sexually assaulted anyone or tried to do a coup. The guy is a bad duded who also loves attention, that’s all. I think it’s better for everyone if we don’t try to medicalize it, because people who have been through the medical diagnosis machine are (often seriously) harmed when evil monsters become what most people automatically think of when they hear about p ‘mental illness’. Trump is just a horrible person. That’s all. He knows what he’s doing and he’s responsible for it.
Agreed. Lemmy won’t let me upload one yet though.
It toggles between an open eye icon and and crossed out eye. What’s it do?
Edit: turns out it hides hidden posts.
So there is a fascinating historical rabbit hole here that I went down a few years ago. I think it is Nicole Rudolph who did a deep dive video into the history of bras and other shapewear. If you smoked a lot and like history I recommend it.
Bras and similar garments give the proper ‘shape’ for the clothes and cultural norms of the moment, and give people comfort and support if they need it. Lots of people need something sturdy to keep everything in place, but it’s also still a very grey area of social acceptance to choose not wear one.
