I have unlimited cellular data on my phone but not if I use it as a hotspot.
  • You can lock the bootloader again after the flashing process is done(because it will add the signing key of the new OS), but unfortunately the NFC Payments in Google Pay still won't work because Google only allows it on 'certified' Android systems (aka only the preinstalled OS)

  • Best firefox build for android?
  • Did you read the sentence before that? A malicious website could read data from other websites(opened in different tabs), and also passwords stored in the browser, etc... There is no additional system exploit needed for that

  • Pixel 8a gets more expensive: Colors, prices, memory of the new Google phone
  • When the 7a launched the regular 7 was almost the same price already, so the gap is actually bigger than last year. But I guess they'll just make the upcoming Pixel 9 more expensive as well to restore the gap again.

  • More ways to repair your Pixel phones
  • Thankfully the eu will mandate common sense starting in next year's devices... So replaceable batteries are back!

Thats not correct. The law only applies from 2027, and there are exceptions for smartphones and tablets.

Basically it doesn't need to be user replaceable if the battery is rated for at least 83% capacity after 500 charging cycles and at least 80% capacity after 1000 charging cycles.

  • Telegram is still leaking user IP addresses to contacts
  • Doesn't this affect Signal too? There is a setting under "Privacy -> Advanced" called "Always relay calls", which routes calls through Signal servers to prevent IP leaks (and can decrease call quality)... This setting is disabled by default

  • GrapheneOS version 2023100100 released
  • The older Pixels (up to Pixel 5a) only get three years of security updates, and the 4a got released in August of 2020 (the non-a model even earlier), so... yes, its EOL now.

Pixel 6 and 7 series get five years of Security updates, and the upcoming 8 series is rumored to get seven years.

  • I can't donate to Boost
  • I've had a similar issue with a different app before, it was caused by the Play Store (which also lead to automatic updates not working for a while). I fixed it by Force-Stopping the Play Store and relaunching it again.

Disclaimer: I'm using a custom ROM where the Google stuff is sandboxed (GrapheneOS), maybe the bug doesn't occur on Stock Android.

  • which linux distro do you NOT like, and why?
  • OpenSUSE, mostly because they differ too much from other distros, often even without any (obvious) advantages.

For example a lot of file paths (config files and such) are different, and when being used to other distros (or just following a guide from the internet) it takes longer to find it (I know there is Yast but I'm not a huge fan of that tool either)

    Also, Manjaro

  • Removed
    Adblocker for apps
  • There are some browsers with ad-blocking support, e.g. Firefox/Fennec/Mull with the uBlock Origin extension, or Brave Browser.

There used to be third party apps for Twitter, but afaik they don't work anymore.

DNS blocking only works if the ads are loaded from a seperate subdomain.

  • Weird Keyboard Behavior on GrapheneOS
  • I can reproduce this with the stock GOS keyboard (which is just the AOSP keyboard afaik), but it doesn't happen when using the 'Simple Keyboard'.

OpenBoard is based on the AOSP keyboard, which explains why it happens there too.

  • Updated my Samsung phone and it installed unwanted apps
  • Personally I wouldn't mind a few preinstalled apps, if they can actually be uninstalled, not just disabled which seems to be the case for some.

But the "Meta Services" thing seems shady af, its not showing up in the app drawer because its just a background service most people don't even know it exists. Its also not needed, because all of the Meta apps work just fine without it. So realistically Meta just pays Samsung a lot of money for something that only has the purpose to collect a lot of user data (it can also access more data than regular apps because it's installed as an system app)
