One must imagine Saddam Hussein happy
  • I don't remember the name but it's a depiction of a cave explorer that got stuck like that and died. While there was help at the place to try and get him out they couldn't. If I remember correctly he's still stuck in that same place.

  • Why are SMS messages so expensive?
  • Holy hell. Sure, I bought my phone (a OnePlus 9) out of pocket but I pay about 20 USD for unlimited calls and SMS with 5Gb of data per month (I can also save unused data from each month to the other up to 15Gb). This is in Sweden for reference.

  • Google is removing third-party apps and clock faces from all Fitbit watches in the EU
  • I bought a Garmin after having a Fitbit for many years. I must say i really prefer the Garmin, even though they are more expensive than the Fitbit. Though, if you want all functions on the Fitbit you need premium and if you include two years of that they are about the same price.

  • The New Audi A3 Is Amess With In-Car Subscriptions
  • I totally agree. I've had my 2011 2.0 TDIe Audi A6 now for about 7 years. Never had major problems, though I specifically selected a diesel engine as the TFSI engines are crap. I also do pretty much all of.my own work so only pay for parts when something happens, which of course helps keep costs down.

If anyone is repairing or diagnosing your own vehicle in the WV group, make sure you get the VCDS software as it helps a ton! I got some cheap clone via eBay but it's worked just fine for many years for me.

  • What are the visually most stunning movies?
  • I think it depends on what you mean by stunning. I personally prefer

    • The Martian
    • Interstellar
    • The original LOTR trilogy in 4K HDR, though the fellowship sure has the most beautiful scenes.
  • Anyone have a working solution for programming Arduino or PIC micros?
  • I've tried many times for a few years now to get this working. Even though I get platformio to create a compile_commands.json it still doesn't work very well. Thinks std::string is a uint_8 and so on. I've just given up on it and use VS Code to program the ESPs I work with. Use neovim for everything else.

  • Exclusive: OnePlus 12 software updates — OnePlus' president explains why you get 5 years, not 7
  • I was using my OnePlus 6 for about 4 years before I got a stupidly good deal on a OnePlus 9. Wasn't planning on upgrading but here we are. I felt no real reason to update as it was still performing well except the battery. I'm probably going to keep my OnePlus 9 for about as long.

Sure, this isn't the norm but my guess is more and more people are going to keep their phones longer now that the price is so damn high.

  • Thousands of private camera footages from bedrooms hacked, sold online - VnExpress International
  • I'm just about to setup TP-link cameras connected to Frigate (NVR software) with a Coral TPU for offline object detection. This means I can block access to internet for the cameras and use a VPN home if I want to watch them.

  • The race to 5G is over — now it’s time to pay the bill
  • I think 4G was a lot of speed for mobile devices but I must say the speeds on 5G are quite impressive. I can get about 50-70mbit/s with 4G on my phone while 5G does 300+. Do I ever need that? No.

I think it would have been better to invest in better coverage with 4G.

  • Me Too, me too...
  • Yup, totally agree. Changed my microwaving habits a few years back. 3 minutes at about 600 watts works like a charm for just about everything. Add a minute or so if you're heating soup or something else with a lot of mass/water.

I always did 2 minutes at maximum power previously and it was always like the surface of the sun on the outside and cold on the inside.
