Mile-a-minute thrill ride
  • I like to imagine this person realized he was close to his friend’s house, parked nearby, texted his friend, drove by the house and honked, then parked again and waited for the friend to respond. That's my head canon.

Saw them live in Philly last weekend. Soooo good.

I'm feeling a lot of shame right now.
  • Yeah, this one's tough to address because I wasn't there when she said it. I heard it second hand from my husband. If I had been there, I definitely would have said something to her. For the most part she's great, but my husband's family culture is kinda like... They say things bluntly sometimes. My family was NOT like that growing up. I think there's a happy medium to be found somewhere in there...

Sorry about your MIL. It's great that you've set boundaries though.

  • I'm feeling a lot of shame right now.
  • We're on kind of a tight budget right now, but it's something I've considered.

I definitely feel like most baby boomers do not see neurodivergence or mental health challenges as legitimate. They don't get how ADHD or depression or anxiety could cause someone to struggle so much with everyday tasks.

  • I'm feeling a lot of shame right now.
  • Thanks for responding. That's an interesting way to frame it that I never thought of before - that cleaning is sort of a... talent, for lack of a better word. I guess I feel like there's this expectation for everyone, especially women, to be super clean. But I've never been that person. I think I can do a little better but yeah I'm never gonna have knack for it per se.

  • I'm feeling a lot of shame right now.

I could use some advice or support.

My husband and I both have ADHD. We really struggle to keep up with cleaning our home. My parents weren't great cleaners when I was a kid either, so I get stressed sometimes because I don't know how to handle various things around our home.

My husband told me a couple weeks ago that his mom was over at our house, and she told him we "don't deserve to be homeowners." This comment really cut me to the core. I have a pretty good relationship with my MIL overall which is what makes it hurt that much worse. But she is an insanely clean person, and she really can't stand any kind of mess. I try to remind myself of this, that her standards are really high. I keep hearing that comment in my head and I feel like a piece of shit.

I really want to clean up my house but I have so much shame around it that it's so hard to motivate myself to do it. It's not like I live in a hoarder house or anything... But my house is messy enough that I am embarrassed to have people over most or the time.

Just needed to vent a little. Thanks for reading.

YSK that there are a range of medications that can prevent alcoholics and other addicts from relapsing
  • My husband is currently taking naltrexone, so I just wanted to hop on here and say to anyone that is considering taking it, please be careful and do your research! It's not that the medication is bad, but you should prepare for it before you start, especially if you currently drink in high quantities. My husband went to a psychiatrist who specializes in substance use, she gave him an RX for naltrexone but didn't provide really any resources or advice about how to approach it. The first night, he decided to drink maybe half of his normal nightly amount of alcohol - he vomited multiple times, had bad chills, etc. There's also risk of seizures if you try to quit or taper down from alcohol too quickly. After that night, he decided that he would only take half his naltrexone dose at first and would taper down very slowly. Things have been going much better for the last few weeks. Also, you really need someone to help you stay accountable if you're going to try an at-home detox. In our case, we locked up all of the alcohol in our house (I keep the key). And I'm in the room with my husband while he drinks a specific amount of vodka each night. Since that first night, I don't think he's really had any significant side effects.

  • Zork cross-stitch [OC]
  • I tried to use glow-in-the-dark thread for a Halloween piece and it did not work at all. I was so disappointed. Some people online suggested holding it up to a bright light for a while, I did that and still nothing 😭

  • [Question Of The Day] What is your favorite music tech?
  • My Sony headphones for sure. I have the WH-1000XM4. I’m sure there’s something better out there but I’m not enough of an audiophile to know, lol. As bluetooth headphones go, they’re pretty solid.

  • [Question Of The Day] What is your favorite music tech?
  • You and your daughter are both so talented!

P.S. I tried to listen to Such Wonder and I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong but it wouldn’t let me listen on Spotify or Qobuz. On Spotify it’s grayed out, on Qobuz I got an error msg. It could just be my phone but I thought I’d say something in case it’s a larger issue.

[30 Day Song Challenge: Alternative Nation Edition] Day 19 - An alternative song that, you know, just makes you THINK…
  • Jaws by Dizzy

It’s off their new album. The lead singer said this about the subject matter: “‘Jaws’ is a song about the expectations that come along with adulthood: marriage, buying a home, having kids, white picket fences. I have to wonder if we all truly want those things or if we follow suit out of fear and peer pressure."

For me, it makes me think about the overall experience of being female and the expectations and pressures that come along with that.

  • Sources to learn about recent evolutionary discoveries?

I grew up in an evangelical household and went to a Christian school where they only taught creationism (and a little “micro evolution” but not much).

It’s been many years since I left Christianity but I never really re-schooled myself on all the science I missed out on. I started watching some YouTube videos, and while they’re very informative, I realized they’re about 10 years old. I got to thinking there have probably been a lot of scientific discoveries in the last 10 years. So I googled “recent evolutionary discoveries” and the amount of info that came up was overwhelming.

What’s a good source that I could focus on to learn about discoveries over the last decade or two?

    Hot Girl Strummer

Acoustic/stripped down stuff with a focus on guitar and sometimes other stringy instruments (ukelele, mandolin, banjo)

I have a pretty wide variety of artists on here, but it's a work in progress. Enjoy!

    Surrogate - Post-Heroic

Surrogate has been one of my favorite bands for close to 15 years now. I just noticed that they have less than 1k monthly listeners on Spotify and figured I would get up on my soapbox to share them here.

If you want to get a sense of their range, here are a few songs I would recommend as a primer:

    Post-Heroic (from Post-Heroic)

Stay Out of the Sun (from Love Is For The Rich)

State of Jefferson (from Popular Mechanics)

The Devil Gets What He Wants Sometimes (from Popular Mechanics)

    Battleground, Washington (from Post-Heroic)

    A religious deconstruction playlist

For exchristians, exvangelicals, and folks questioning their faith.

The tracks are in no particular order because I’m not that fancy. I have them sorted by artist because that’s easiest for me, but I’d say just throw it on shuffle!
