My response was based on, I'd say 30-35 years of watching his career, starting in standup and moving on to commentary and punditry.
I do apologize for not watching this clip before commenting but my sense is that he presents an air of smug, distant dissatisfaction, pretending he knows better and mildly insulting while still allowing his guests to put forth their shitty and damaging views relatively unchallenged.
Hence the comparison to Rogan.
If 30+ years of observations about Maher's career and attitudes - including actually watching his shows for a very long time - comes down to misinformation in your eyes... I dunno what else to say. I guess I didn't spell this all out earlier. I neither read nor follow Salon in general.
It's just my opinion in the end, which can't be fucking disinformation.
But not the glaring most damaging topics. Because Maher shares the delusion. I used to watch Maher. He was always an undeservedly smug loudmouth asshole. With very little of value to say. But the panels were always interesting. As time went on the panels got less and less interesting. He got more and more buddy buddy with some of the worst. Platforming them more. And rather than being a loud mouth provocateur sparking debate. Actively pushed in Earnest to use it as a soapbox for pushing his misunderstandings.
Honestly I think the piranha women of the avocado jungle should have done us all a favor and just eaten him.
