How about that first amendment?
Yeah so about that...
The executive unitary theory, which the party in charge of all three branches of government right now subscribe to, essentially implies that the first amendment, and really the entire sheet of parchment, is about as useful as toilet paper.
"Congress shall not" doesn't mean shit when it's the executive calling the shots and the only institutions that can legally stop him are controlled by his loyal party.
At this point I'm almost hoping for some team of elite western-European mercenaries to come in and take over the capital and reboot democracy with updated firmware.
C'mon world. America has spent the past hundred-some-odd years spreading our democracy like a horny teenager. Can't someone repay the favor?
Yeah, we need to be invaded.
As the Trump stooge correctly states (broken clock, etc.)
“While their right to irresponsible and dishonest reporting is protected by the First Amendment, it does not ensure their privilege of unfettered access to limited spaces, like the Oval Office and Air Force One,” Budowich wrote.
It's basically the argument Bush, Reagan, and so on used for "Free Speech Zones."
It says nothing about your right to do it anywhere so they can force you into a zone a mile away from the RNC for your legal first amendment peotected protest.
Basically making it entirely meaningless.
This has been a long time coming.
Exactly. I'd add that they have successfully made the law in general meaningless, so that even if it were in fact a 1A violation, nobody would or could do anything about it.
You know, this is the kind of talk that should have been happening since before 2016. Everyone has warned that the constant barrage of lies and misinformation is dangerous.
However, they have the keys to the kingdom for round two now. The inaction of us (as a country) has let it get to this point. We're in for a wild ride.
If they are going to punish a news organization for a perceived slight, then every other organization would be scared to report, make the press in fact not free
Same as it ever was I guess, none of your rights really matter unless you can get in the right room with the right people.
It's not Congress making a law and theyre not telling the AP they can't post anything. So they'll argue the first doesn't apply.
Unfortunately this does not fall under that. They are still free to report things. They just don't get to report things second hand. He did the same shot during his first term.
