Americans Don't Value Education - Americans have to care for things to get better

Teacher's are also constantly failing their students.

With this climate and culture you have to teach students to critically understand the world and why it's falling apart. "Education is path forward to a better life" is answered by the very real circumstances of their older siblings and friends getting crushed by school debt only to work the same shitty dead end job they did in highschool.

Many of them teach and act like the American dream is still a thing, like students just have to work hard like they did to succeed, but that just isn't the case. This salesmanship of a story and idea that is long past it's expiration date increases student apathy even more. I think this will only increase as America continues to fall apart.

Americans pride themselves on their deliberate ignorance, they failed to recognize 1984's slogan "Ignorance is Strength" as the warning it was meant to be, they have made it their goal instead. The "Anti-woke" mentality fits right in there.

I love to learn, but I swear my (relatively decent) school is trying to make me hate it.

Article based on feels instead of data. Educational attainment in the US is at an all time high. Lifetime earnings for bachelor's degree holders far outstrip those of non graduates.

The problem I think is the lack of a coherent set of goals or societal vision to strive towards. There's not even a short term plan. Hard to express hope for the future in these circumstances, and you can't blame people for being drawn to nihilistic get rich quick schemes in that context. But that doesn't mean they don't value education. They're just tiktok influencers with college degrees.
