Teens Are Talking to Pro-Anorexia AI Chatbots That Encourage Disordered Eating
The multibillion-dollar AI company Character.AI is hosting pro-anorexia chatbots that promote disordered eating and unhealthy weight loss.
"Hello, I am here to make you skinny."
Ai chatbots are sycophants. They will say literally anything if you convince it. You can get them to tell you to kill yourself or others or anything at all. They are only dangerous if you believe them. Unfortunately that's going to be a huge problem.
23 1 ReplyWhy would anybody willingly talk to a chatbot in the first place?
5 0 ReplyLoneliness is a huge problem in America. Presumably in many other places too.
Also, when I was a kid in the 80s, I spent hours talking to the extremely limited ELIZA and loved it.
13 0 ReplyThese are also teenagers, who don't have the best critical thinking skills. (not that adults don't do it too)

4 0 Replyfuck yes, where do I sign up?
5 3 ReplyI really, really don't get the character.ai thing at all, but is this really pro-anorexia? I have seen the fat acceptance crowd label anything remotely resembling calorie counting to be pro-eating-disorder
3 2 ReplyThe first paragraph of the article answers that... it discourages healthy weights and recommends dangerously low calorie diets.

Well, if anything, it will increase the overall food supply of the world by cutting consumption down
4 7 Reply"Children starving in Africa? Hehehe... More for me!"
Are you okay?
5 2 ReplyAssuming it was an attempt actually gallows humor.
3 0 ReplyThis doesn't even make sense, are children in Africa using these AI chat bots and that is why they're starving?
Obviously not
