I can already see issues with this. Different races and ethnicities within those races “age” at different rates. I was well into my 30s before people outside my group believed I was over 18 consistently. Also, I can see this being abused by law enforcement and state entities. Very stupid.
FTC already has allowances for face recognition of children stuff, just not for age checking so this seems like it could go through.
Also they state that images are deleted as soon as they are processed, which is a requirement in general for children's data, but we all know that can change in the future. then they'll get a tiny fine that is just the cost of business but in the mean time they sold your childs face data to ten thousand ai startups
Regarding safety concerns for those who use the technology, including minors, the proposal said, "Images are immediately, permanently deleted, and not used by Yoti for training purposes."
Then it could be a useful way to verify ages for many purposes, especially in light of restrictive laws around porn in many US states. I wonder how accurate this is though
