Dude has admitted, on record, of raping women in his teenage years. He's also been recorded saying some very explicit and disturbing things towards an 11 year old girl riding a horse. His behaviour is a very well known secret in French cinema and has been for a long time now. It's only been made public recently thanks to these women.
On top of all that, he's also been practicing tax evasion for many decades, and fled to Russia when asked to pay.
Screw him and all those who protect and defend him. he's a rotten piece of human garbage.
I think he took his method acting too far.
That song is from “Gigi” which is about a 15 year old girl who eventually “gets her man” who is like 30. Maurice Chevalier performs the song in the movie and Depardu is alluding to this:

Is it really baffling? The film industry protects them. It's a simple as that. You don't have to look any farther than the 2003 Academy Awards where Roman Polanski (who fled the US in the 1978 o avoid being prosecuted for sexually assaulting a minor) was wildly applauded for his return.
Where was Roman Polanski working between 1979 and 2004? Anywhere that didn't have an extradition treaty with the United States, including France.
Trump will offer him asylum, a congressional medal of honor, and a cabinet post.
