Picked up some plast-dip today
I have several old tools that I want to add some grip to, and some synthetic rope I need to dress the ends of.
Never really used this stuff before, so I'm gonna call it an experiment.

Results were somewhat mixed. Some of the tools took the dip very well, and it left a nice rubberized surface that feels strong enough to stand up to consistent use, but is potentially a little too smooth (maybe adding texture between coats could help).
I am less pleased with the results for dressing the ends of the rope. The dip coats nicely, but feels like it is going to eventually flake off.

Thanks for the update. Seems like a great option for restoring some really old pliers I have laying around that lost their grips long ago. My boss supplies me with the cloth gloves that have the rubberized coating on them, and that coating wears down in a week to a month depending on what I'm doing; they'll definitely flake if the rubber gets dried out but they never last that long anyways. Have found a lost glove in the field that had dried out, rubber was cracked but still stuck to the glove for what it's worth ✌🏻

I have an old pair of needle nose pliers where the grips are torn and worn out. Never once did it occur to me to make new grips.
All that to say, thank you for the suggestion!

Dip some old socks. Maybe they’ll become slippers. Let me know if it works.

I've used in on my truck's wheels, front mask and rear bumper. It's good stuff for that application but I can't imagine it being durable enough to last in a tool handle.

If you literally dip it in the can then it might be thick enough to actually last. I've only bought it in aerosol cans and even after several thick coats it's still relavitely prone to scratching.

That’s the only way I’ve ever used it. The aerosol looked so unhealthy lol.
