Poor Dev
Poor Dev
Poor Dev
This is made funnier by the fact that Red's wife is also a Dev of Terraria
I’ve played through Terraria. I like Stardew Valley way more as well. Both games scratch certain itches for me but SDV scratches way more of them and way more variety.
Emotional, musical, technical, optimization, engineering, planning, combat. I would say neither game has great combat. Terraria is a bit better for the technical platforming and character control. But SDV overall is just a lot better in terms of music, story, immersiveness, attachment, and the feeling of accomplishment.
SDV is still the only game I’ve ever played that changed what I want to do with my life. That’s pretty special!
I tried Terraria a few times and I just can't connect with it.
I played with friends and always got frustrated. You can't just fuck around and discover new stuff. It kind of works like that right at the beginning and that's a lot of fun. Id say it works right until after you beat skeletron or maybe when you first go to hell, but if you want to get far at all it turns into a "wiki game" where everyone has to have the terraria wiki open in another window to learn where they have to farm to get the next good armor.
The same but I know exactly what my problem is. I'm expecting 2D Minecraft even though I know it is its own game
I find most of the boss battles unsatisfyingly hard, but I actually think it's a little bit more "chill" than Stardew, for just hanging out an growing/building stuff. I don't have to worry about birthdays or 2am passing out. But, I guess you do have to fortify against goblin/pirate invasions after a while.
I agree the Terraria doesn't have a hook for the player, really. You have to explore to find out what there is at all. Stardew does at least introduce you to the main activities, while still rewarding exploration.
I have more time in Stardew, and have never beaten Terraria. But, I haven't played the most recent versions of either.
Same. It feels like an arbitrary mashup of several other games, without capturing the magic of any of those games. Also kind of feels like the "default demo game" for a generic game engine. Its kind of got no soul. It's a Roblox situation. I know lots of people adore it but I'd infinitely rather be playing Minecraft or Noita or another game with some true novelty.
Having not played it, to me it looks like 2D Minecraft. Doesn't seem very interesting.
It is a combat focused game, where the progression is beating different bosses to unlock new enemies, ores, weapons etc. Way more items than Minecraft, a lot of mechanics aswell.
Give it a go, defeat Wall of Flesh in the Underworld, and then the true game begins.
A lot more content with big mods like Calamity.
Same. The controls feel awkward.
Same, wife. Same.
Does Terraria not have a “peaceful” mode?
Journey mode I think we made to scratch that itch, iirc. I don't play it though, I enjoy pain too much.
I like how in Journey mode you can unlock infinite replication for every block or item by sacrificing enough of them. The concept of giving up potential power now in return for a huge payout later intrigues me. I just wish it was more balanced with higher costs or a cooldown or something, since certain items break the game when you can spam them endlessly even if they're several steps behind in the equipment progression chain.
Does stardew valley have it?
We mean, it makes sense. Stardew is way less stressful in some ways than Terraria. The goals and gameplay on the whole are very different.
