Serious sexual repression I think. Conservatives publicly treat sex and sexuality as things that are dirty and sinful. Sometimes they get caught out for doing weird shit because they can't escape from their inherent human sexual urges.
I think that also contributes to their raging LGBTphobia. They think we're just a kink or a fetish, because that's how they view all intimacy. It's projection.
I honestly think a lot of it is probably rooted in childhood and generational trauma (e.g. their parent(s) physically/verbally abused them for sexual curiosity at a young age, just as their grandparents' did to their parents, and so on).
As my friends who specialize in trauma therapy like to say, a majority of the weird/evil shit we see in the world is rooted in trauma.
Weird christian shame shit aside, here's a nice security concern to top it off:
“A US Congressman is allowing a 3rd Party tech company to scan ALL of his electronic devices daily and then uploading reports to his son about what he’s watching or not watching….,” Receipt Maven wrote. “I mean, who else is accessing that data?”
If my parent asked me to monitor their porn intake I’d tell them to talk to a clinical sexologist because what the actual fuck‽ And if they asked about mine I’d honestly be concerned that there’s something incestous there.
Like I’m super pro sex ed and parent-child communication on such things. But there are things that you’d like to keep private from that relationship unless it’s important. I’m so grateful I don’t know anything about my parents’ masturbation habits
Having your kid be your AA sponsor also sounds pretty dang irresponsible in most cases. But also compulsive porn consumption is something that’s less to be solved with “even more Christian AA” than it is with a clinical sexologist because there’s usually quite a bit going on there and many times it’s more related to being ashamed of having healthy sexual desires than it it is an addiction. But also it’s having your kid monitor your porn consumption. Not a friend. Not your spouse. Your child.
It looks more like a control thing to me. He wanted to see his son's porn habits and offered his own in return as an "olive branch". And I wonder if both just use another device to consume porn without the other knowing.
porn isn't really the issue, at least not for me, its the underlying issue of why we watch it, it makes us feel good and often there is a lack of "feeling good" in our lives so thats why we turn to it. I used to put on porn when I drive just to get me through the day because my body physically hurt from the job, it was something to try make me feel better. I didn't jack off, that wasn't the purpose of it, but I understand why I felt I needed to put it on, same reason people watch TV shows and consume entertainment in their lives. PORN consumption is more a reflection of the things lacking and psychology of local culture than actual addiction, at least in my case.
Knew before I read the article that it was gonna be Covenant Eyes. Aka the same software "monitoring" Josh Duggar, that he got around with a partition. Super effective stuff. I'm guessing about 90% of fundie men that use it also have partitions, because you don't pay for software to monitor your every move unless you know you're not able/willing to control yourself.
You probably already know this, but you need to keep a lookout for where the articles are actually sourced from. Just because multiple sources are reporting on something could simply mean they are affiliated outlets publishing the same story from the same original author.
This saves time for affiliate outlets, but it's a practice that is vulnerable to the rapid spread of misreporting or intentional misinformation.
The real problem is people that should be our leaders don't want anything to do with all the bullshit involved with politics. So we end up with weirdos and crazies instead.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson admitted that he and his son monitored each other’s porn intake in a resurfaced clip from 2022.
During a conversation on the “War on Technology” at Benton, Louisiana’s Cypress Baptist Church — unearthed by X user Receipt Maven last week — the Louisiana representative talked about how he installed “accountability software” called Covenant Eyes on his devices in order to abstain from internet porn and other unsavory websites.
Outside of the creepy Big Brother-ness of it all, Receipt Maven also aired concerns about whether Covenant Eyes — which is still a working subscription-based service — might “compromise” Johnson’s devices, if he’s still actively seeking accountability.
“A US Congressman is allowing a 3rd Party tech company to scan ALL of his electronic devices daily and then uploading reports to his son about what he’s watching or not watching….,” Receipt Maven wrote.
Since he was elected Speaker of the House in October, Johnson’s history as a faith-obsessed, election-denying, far-right Christian nationalist has come under the microscope, from his time with the anti-LBGTQ organization Alliance Defending Freedom to his claim that school shootings could be blamed on abortion and teaching evolution.
In an interview Sunday morning on Fox News, Johnson was asked about his history on abortion, including claims that he was opposed to contraception and IVF treatment.
