Question for all the musician folk with bands and such
i have a question that is hard to google. how does one acquire a band? like i got songs, i got hella songs, and i think that i can sing adequately (i sang in front of my partner and they think that i sound very good :)), i just have no ability to play guitar/bass/drums, let alone at the same time, so where do i find 2-4 people in my area who know how to play instruments and are ideologically compatible with myself??? on top of that, these people would also need to like/enjoy the music that i wanna put out and want to specifically play my songs, which i don't know how big of an ask that is??? any assistance is welcomed.
Local Facebook groups have worked for me, although I joined as a player in all cases. Then you may develop a network and find people that way if the scene is big enough.
Starting a band from scratch is a big undertaking. Musicians are flaky as hell. Don't get discouraged too easily.
There are probably local ad sites for 'musicians wanted'. Also, most rehearsal spaces have pinboards where people can place 'musician looking for band / band looking for musicians' ads.
Starting a band from scratch is obviously harder. Joining an existing combo, provided they are up to including your material in their repertoire, is the easier route.
Oh no, I wasn't meaning to say that it was a dumb question. That emoji's a character from a cartoon about a kid with social anxiety trying to start a band with 0 idea about how to do that lol.
To jump on what other people have said, make a mix of songs/bands that you want to sound like or influence you. The best bandleaders I've ever worked with all did this
to like/enjoy the music that i wanna put out and want to specifically play my songs
If you want strict control this is a big ask and I think you're looking for session musicians. There seems to be an oversupply of singers and lead guitarists, and an undersupply of bassists and drummers. I feel like most good musicians also like to compose. If you want to collaborate on songs then that seems like the normal way things work.
I can't give any specific help because I just play with friends. I'm not a very good musician but they seem to meet other people in their extended social circles who want to collab. And we talked about going to an open mic night to meet more local musicians. If you have an alto/soprano voice and are in Chicago hit me up, we only have bass/baritone singers.
