Article 1: county refuses to reopen warming shelters despite snow and ice covering city and temperatures haven't been above 32°f in a week and warming shelters had record usage during the storm. Says they "can't open unless temp goes below 25 or there's an inch of snow coming down or it's below 32 and raining an inch".
Article 2: heartwarming emergency personnel save a hecking doggo from too much smow.
They do have warming centers but since people can't bring their stuff in, as soon as it hits 35F they shut it down and hopefully everyone found storage or something like there days ago before they first got there
in my area at least I've never heard of warming centers refusing to open, but it's also cold as fuck here most of the winter
its one of those moments where the still functioning bits of safety net collide with the ones that no longer exist/maybe never did and so you get emergency response going the extra mile but absolutely no care for chronic societal issues because those are the bad people (TM)
