I'd prefer they make it based on a fixed metric of any car, and don't use some subjective definition of what an SUV is.
As in, charge by the weight, or the length, or width, or something of that nature. Like, some station wagons can be as long as an SUV, and comparably wide.
Perhaps designate a predetermined code to all legal models, and display the vehicle rate on a sticker on the car, so it's easy for everyone.
If it's emissions or engine displacement, that could be captured with the code too.
Fully support more pedestrian and human powrred mobility space.
It's stupid to just target SUVs. I'm not anti-SUV at all but all they need to do is give you a fine if you don't park inside the lines alongside the street. If your car doesn't fit then too bad.
Edit: I'm being downvoted for...agreeing that Paris has a right to regulate the size of cars on their streets?
