Yoshinori Kitase Would Change the Combat System in a Final Fantasy VIII Remake
Final Fantasy 8 director Yoshinori Kitase says he'd rework the combat and Junction system in a hypothetical remake of the 25 year-old PS1 classic.
Change as in rework to make it more user friendly. Not change as in get rid of it for something else.
They could even keep the “gotta suck out the magic to use the magic” system, just make it so you only have to do it once every so often instead of all the time.

I would love a mod for the original that draws 100 from the enemy, but then removes it as a drawable magic. That way there's some kind of a downside.
I think i only used draw in my first few playthroughs before learning how to refine magic from the obscene amount of cards and mug items i had just lying around.
Even beating first optional boss, the mechanical spider x-something at Dollet doesn't require draw at all. You can get everthing you need by playing cards with the students at the library, cafeteria and front gate.
It seems as if draw was meant as a last resort in case you didn't wanna play cards or were stuck out of magic to junction. I do think they should explain you will unlock ways to refine magic from GF abilities in the tutorial though.
Please please please can we re-make ffviii? That was the game that brought me into RPGs. Everything was so interconnected, the story was wild, and it clearly had a lot of back story/ancillary story dropped. I would pre-order it in a heartbeat to go along with the other 4 versions I have of it already.
I'd love a prequel with Adel and Laguna. Laguna's story in particular is a heartbreaker.
Also, a prequel/sequel following Ultimecia as she becomes jaded and bitter from SeeDs trying to kill her due to some prophecy. Eventually becoming the Ultimecia we know.
I love this game.
Laguna kiros and Ward had so much more story to be given. Along with cid and edea.
I loved the integration of all of the mechanics, very much like all the threads in the story, hell I would still love to hear more about gf's and magic in that world, if anything I think they should make the junction system deeper, have equipment that is selectable and has different levels of attunability to each guardian force and type of magic.
Don't go the wrong way in remaking ffviii, make it even deeper!
