If the homeowner had fired back, and killed the cops, they would likely be cleared of wrongdoing (eventually, like a loooong eventually). It's already happened several times.
That is not accurate. Someone broke into a different apartment and a neighbor said there was a window broken at this one. They went to investigate, and this was the result.
Per your second source a gun was found near the doorway and

Yeah... I wasn't too surprised as well... that many mags and that much force... I mean... come on, anyone with half a brain would have emptied like 5 rounds max and got behind something... to access the situation, try and get the other side talking or whatever...
But, in this day and age, stuff like this doesn't surprise me at all.
