Trump's bail set at $200,000 in Georgia 2020 election case
Former President Trump's bail has been set at $200,000 in the Fulton County prosecution over his alleged efforts to subvert 2020 election results in Georgia.
Driving the news: The Monday court filing, signed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Trump's lawyers, also includes strict conditions on witness intimidation.
- "The defendant shall perform no act to intimidate any person known to him or her to be a codefendant or witness in this case or to otherwise obstruct the administration of justice," per the court filing.
- "The above shall include, but are not limited to, posts on social media or reposts of posts made by another individual on social media," the order adds.
The big picture: Trump was charged last week with 13 counts in the probe into his alleged efforts to flip Georgia's 2020 election results.
- The most sweeping count that Trump faces in Georgia relates to a mobster statute, Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO).
What to watch: Trump and 18 of his c0-defendants in the case are due to surrender to authorities at the Fulton County Courthouse by 12 pm ET on Friday.
- Two co-defendants, lawyers John Eastman and Kenneth Chesebro, both agreed to a $100,000 bond on Monday.
- Eastman championed the legal theory that Trump used to pressure his Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the election results. Chesebro is credited with being the first lawyer to suggest that slates of fake pro-Trump electors could try to get recognized by Congress on Jan. 6.
He's a flight risk. He belongs behind bars.
I don't think he is. He wants to be President, and he can't really do that if he flees the country.
So I don't think he'll run, he'll delay as much as he can.
He'll probably cough up someone to pay his bail for him. I'm just waiting for when he is going to break the conditions on victim intimidation and lose that bail and go to jail.
And I say when, not if. Because we all know, he just cannot shut his loose mouth.
10% of bond must be posted, IIRC. So, is $20k all that he needs to walk?
That's for poor people...
Bail is just "give us x amount till trial so we know you'll come back" but you're supposed to actually get that back.
But because most people couldn't pay, bondsman starting popping up. You pay them 10%, and they put up the rest. But you never get your 10% back, it's gone.
So for decades now, if you were gonna run, you just paid 10%. So courts started jacking up bail amounts, because they know a runner only needs 10%.
Which means even more people have to pay the 10% fine.
trump can just put some property on the line instead of cash, and this has zero effect on him.

The money is irrelevant, it's the conditions that are set. He's on a very very short leash and it's a matter of time before he violates them units he can manage to keep his mouth shut and his fingers on his balls.
It's not a huge deal. He's not really a flight risk -- the Secret Service protective detail is on him 24/7.
He’ll pay it in “two weeks.”
