That was quite a gamble.
- The shooting, or saying he wasn't home? Seems like the shooting was pretty justified given they were actively trying to break down his door.

Why didn't he shoot to the left?
- I think he was worried about shooting through the neighbours door
- Judging by how the door opens after the cops arrive, I don't think he shot through the door, but had it opened just a crack and was simply firing blindly.
