in the same breath he says letting people have insulin is a similar problem
Even if medical progress could be maintained without the rest of the technological system, it would by itself bring certain evils. Suppose for example that a cure for diabetes is discovered. People with a genetic tendency to diabetes will then be able to survive and reproduce as well as anyone else. Natural selection against genes for diabetes will cease and such genes will spread throughout the population. (This may be occurring to some extent already, since diabetes, while not curable, can be controlled through use of insulin.) The same thing will happen with many other diseases susceptibility to which is affected by genetic degradation of the population.
"If a cure was developed for people with this condition, then they would be able to reproduce more people who could be easily cured. There can only be one conclusion from this: billions must die"
The point is that nothing that kills someone after reproductive age is going to impact that trait surviving in the gene pool because they've already had kids, it's done
The whole intelligence bit to how his story is told is grating to me too. Regardless of if you agree that he was very intelligent, it's like when they talk up the charisma of serial killers and the like, they're just fetishizing these people.
Natural selection against genes for diabetes will cease and such genes will spread throughout the population.
he think he's so smart saying the eugenicist version of "billions must die" but somehow forgets that Gene Therapy and CRISPR babies will erase 99% of genetic disorders in less than century without needing any eugenicisms or state-enforced mass cullings. Yeah you'll have the weird homeschooling anti-vax crowd refusing to beastmark their unborn children or w/e, also those silly countries that refuse to give this to all citizens for free, but normal people are going to get their embryos augmented plus pay extra for anime eye colors like purple.
