Ian McKellen gave life to Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, and as Peter Jackson returns to Middle-earth with The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, many fans want to know if the actor would reprise his role.
There's plenty of stories to explore in the world of Arda. Why do studios keep coming back to Gollum? Where are these people who are crying out for more and more Gollum?
I don’t normally get to say this, but In my opinion gollum was the absolute worst part of the movies. Any scene with him, I simply skip. He just pulls me right out of the movie.
I have no desire to watch anything that focuses on this character.
Tbf that had less to do with the character of Gollum and more with the studio taking on more than they could handle and producing an absolute mess of a game.
Why can’t they just make a normal lord of the rings movie?
Because they already did? They did three. And they were so brilliant and are so beloved today that to attempt to remake them any time soon would be the height of folly.
A Hunt of Gollum movie isn't exactly the #1 choice for a story set in Tolkien's Legendarium that I would choose to be adapted. But of the stories that they have the rights to tell, it's a fairly interesting premise. It's not really likely to be a Gollum movie anyway. Aragorn is likely to be the protagonist.
Why can’t they just leave it as it is? The lord of the rings movies were good but we don’t need more. The hobbit series was pretty terrible. I don’t think anyone is clamoring for more. Prequels are garbage that no one wants, and there’s nothing post trilogy anyone would care about.
