Thoughts Around KBin's Current Status and the Importance of Community Migration Features
  • We were seeing the warning signs already by the amount of bots and spammers who were taking over abandoned instances. They just posted a lot of garbage that filled up everywhere they went. And there was almost nobody there to deal with them. Ernest being out of action for prolonged periods didn't help this.

I really hated to see kbin social get mistreated this way considering it was my true alternative since Lemmy got mostly bombarded with former Reddit users that took that over and made it their own.

Kbin social is a learning lesson that if you're unable to maintain something due to personal problems, it is time to hand over the reigns. Ernest did do that but I'm not really sure if the person running it now knows what to do.

  • What has been the hardest thing to let go of when deciding to distance yourself from or drop social media entirely?
  • Nobody can help feel like a salesman or an evangelist for trying to get some people to go elsewhere that is a net positive for their sanity or privacy.

I've stopped trying to convince people to give up Facebook. If they're gonna be on it and want to be glued to it, then fine. I just don't want to hear anyone cry about how they haven't heard from me for X amount of time because I was the one that decided to delete or deactivate it.

  • How do you feel about game shows with massive cash prizes?
  • I prefer my Price is Right where people go through mini-games to win prizes or cash.

Doing stuff like whatever Beast is doing (I don't watch a second of his content) or these shows where people do drastic things just for a sniff of success but for our amusement, I find it pathetic and sad.

  • What has been the hardest thing to let go of when deciding to distance yourself from or drop social media entirely?
  • Or getting likes, upvotes .etc

Yeah that's another issue I've had too. I know what to say on Reddit that'll get me some good upvotes just to 'feel better' about myself over. But what it does is that it works against who you really are and invalidates a little of your true thoughts.

  • What has been the hardest thing to let go of when deciding to distance yourself from or drop social media entirely?

For me it's input. I have a continually thinking mind that feels that I must have something to say on anything. Whenever I've gotten rid of a Reddit account or took even a day or two off from activity on the internet. I had an itch to say something whenever something is reported or something I've seen while browsing that peaked my interest.

And I feel I have to say something on it, even if small. But yet I try to restrain myself from doing so because of how manufactured social media has become today.

It's gotten a little better, mainly because you know, after registering so many accounts for so long and having to upkeep so many. It is tiring to do for me so I think I'm finally slowing down from that to where this issue won't nearly be as big as it once was.

He really wants to kill that platform lol
  • What's really baffling to me is that a bunch of nerds with too much free time on their hands basically stomped out a fully fledged Reddit alternative within a few months, including multiple frontends and apps.

Oh so you've noticed that too? Yeah I thought Lemmy was going to be the difference maker too, the leader of alternative and the breakaway from Reddit. But I've got a bit of a conspiracy theory, I truly think a lot of shitty Reddit users got together and jumped on Lemmy to take a massive dump on it just to ruin it for everyone.

I mean you could tell in moments. The downvote brigading. The report spamming. The snarky responses. Meme-esque posts everywhere. Yeah this was not Lemmy behavior, this was Reddit behavior and it got out of control.

What did the Lemmy mods/admins do about it? Almost nothing.

So now we're in a place of the Fediverse where Lemmy has been fucked up, KBin.social is dead (or in a comatose state since it's still somehow up) and what we have left now are scattering the users.

  • He really wants to kill that platform lol
  • Dude, the fucker has no clue how to RUN reddit much less monetize it.

He's the only clown running the entire circus. He's allowed the inmates run the asylum for years, he's allowed small-dicked neckbeard mods with too much time on their hands to power. He's been pushing out anybody that has a brain. He's made a killing on exploiting the vulnerable (if you're someone with mental issues, the last place you want to be is on Reddit with how much they don't give a shit about privacy on there. Please go elsewhere for your sake.).

He's scrubbed the existence of Aaron Swartz, he's made the other co-founder irrelevant. No, this is Spez just being a power-hungry fuckwad and it's showing.

  • He really wants to kill that platform lol
  • Yes. I remember being there for like a week long I guess because I managed to make a post that did well enough to attract someone to gild or give me some subscription time.

And like someone else already said, it wasn't that spectacular because The Lounge was just basically people shitposting. But they're shit-posting as subscribers so it wasn't anything you didn't already see without it.

  • He really wants to kill that platform lol
  • I just killed what seems to be my millionth Reddit account upon this news discovery. I say millionth because I've been ban-evading from that micromanaging, power-hungry mod shithole for years just to spite them.

But if they're going to now go and paywall subreddits just to read them then I guess the fun is finally over.

Spez is just happily going about continuing to inhale whatever shit his man-crush in Musk farts out.

  • Elon Musk urged to take X responsibilities more seriously
  • To do that he'd have to:

Rehire the competent people again (good luck doing that since a lot of them were and had been involved with actions/lawsuits against him).

Re-establish all of the departments he liquidated.

Both of which or any redeemable action to take he won't do. His platform is perfect as a hotbed for all conservative brainwash rhetoric that he leads.

  • empress says she is going to return cracking denuvo games
  • And all of her simps will fall over eachother at her feet over this.

Why hasn't anyone yet done the ballsy move by just learning her tricks and distributing that to everyone to learn? Why does it have to be this unhinged bitch?

Proton mail = too many emails?
  • Sounds to me you have a bit of an saturation issue than it being a service issue.

I keep my e-mails fairly organized. ProtonMail is served as, to me, the 'mostly everything' e-mail. GMail is still around because I got stubborn services and people that use it and I need it incase ProtonMail fails somehow. I've got a MIcrosoft account that's strictly for personal/private use like banking and insurance stuff.

That's fairly simple. I've no idea what you're trying to do.
