English may be a hot mess but at least we don't have to worry about this nonsense
  • You can't speak french without using it, because the gender of a word changes the gender of particles attached. Think as if in English there was a male "the" and a female "the", like "mthe" and "fthe". You can't just not choose on of those to talk about fthe sun!

Gender in nouns exists to reduce ambiguity (in general, complexity reduces ambiguity), especially in times before widespread dictionaries or even the internet.

More ancient languages with more widespread use tend to be even more complex: think of latin, where particles are inserted within the word depending on their function in the phrase. It's as if in English to say "I go to work" we'd say "I go workt", but to say "this is for work" we'd say "this is workf" Again, more complex to be less ambiguous

  • My HD is chocking but I don't want to throw away culturally precious mataerial (mainly movies)
  • I don't know why no one mentioned it yet, but those are very well known movies, albeit old, and will probably remain pretty easy to find in the near future.

If you still want to hold on to them you could download handbrake. This software lets you shrink a file size by a lot depending on the settings you're working with, and how much you want to compromise the quality.

Also in terms of cost, local storage will always be cheaper than web, mostly due to the fact that cloud storage is paid periodically, while you can buy a decent sized SSD for 40 euros

  • Deciding between Fairphone 5 and Pixel 8
  • Ah nice. I'd have assumed it was replaceable with screws or something, not pop out and replace. This idea of having a phone and two batteries is really interesting and is definitely raising the possibilities I buy a fp5.

Edit: would be even cooler if you could charge the second battery independently.

  • i gotta ask... why so many plex over kodi users?
  • With Kodi you gotta know a little bit about nginx. I had an old laptop (with arch and no de) always on with nginx running to stream videos from the TV via Kodi... It's less resource heavy than Plex but a little bit more work to set up. I actually asked chatgpt how to configure ngnix for my purposes and it worked very well. I also didn't have any automation but I did ssh into the laptop to use rtorrent to add more stuff

So easy answer no it's not more simple at all but you can keep it always on with few resources used
