Microsoft Recall takes constant screenshots of everything you do
  • Next they will be using your web cam to take pictures of you because ... reasons. Then they will turn on your mic and record so that if you verbalize thoughts that don't make it to your computer screen you can recall those too. Where does it end? I don't want to know.

  • Does Instagram or YouTube Shorts get you?
  • I've heard YouTubers say they aren't making as much from their regular videos and that YouTube is pushing shorts. So the Youtubers have started to focus on shorts. I don't like short so I don't watch them.

  • Which communication protocol or open standard in software do you wish was more common or used more?
  • RSS (RDF Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) It is in use a fair amount, but it is usually buried. Many people don't know it exists and because of that I am afraid it will one day go away.

I find it a great simple way to stay up to date across multiple web sites the way I want to (on my terms, not theirs) By the way, it works on Lemmy to :)

Can you separate the artist as a person from the music?
  • Yes. You listen to music without knowing anything about who wrote it and you feel something. That feeling has nothing to do with the composer or performer. Now if you find out the composer/performer is a "bad" person, I would recommend not giving them any money that could contribute to them spreading their "bad stuff". I'd still enjoy the music because your enjoyment isn't furthering their bad agenda.

  • Firefox 123.0 changed DNS settings?

After installing Firefox 123.0 I ran a Mullvad Connection check https://mullvad.net/en/check and found I had a DNS leak. Turns out that Firefox had changed the settings under "DNS over HTTPS" so that my Mullvad DNS wasn't being used any more. After changing this setting to "off" in Firefox, the Mullvad check passed.

    Equivalent to Reddit "subscribe" feature?

I am notified to comments made on post I've made, but how can I "subscribe" to a post that someone else created? I'd like to be able to easily see additional comments as they are made.

I can kind of do this from my saved posts, but that means going and looking to see if there are any new comments on each of those. That isn't very useful.

Short cut keys for web version of Lemmy?

Are there shortcut keys for the web version of Lemmy? I was looking for things like, "next page" or inside a thread "go to next high level post", those kind of things? Also like, "collapse all posts" or "expand all".

Gnucash 5.2 can't save file solution.

Just updated to Gnucash 5.2 (via flatpak) and found I can't save the account file anywhere. It appears to be an issue with 5.2. Solution: Turn off file compression in Gnucash (Edit/Preferences/General uncheck 'Compress Files')
