  • "it's weird and should be more stigmatized" that seems to be making a moral claim right? I guess you never explicitly said that it's because it's weird that it should be stigmatized, but it certainly seemed to be structured like that.

And ah maybe I misunderstood, what you were saying just sounds like how a lot of ppl talk about it on the vegan forums I used to regular, lmao.

  • HP Printrule
  • But in this analogy, instead of disabling the ink/internet, they disabled your entire printer/computer. They didn't withold further service, they actively made something this person already owns useless through a malicious backdoor.

Married billionaire Eric Schmidt reportedly invested $100 million in a company run by a 29-year-old entrepreneur said to be his girlfriend
  • Can't speak for the person you're responding to, but honestly no, not really? Like, of course it's a big deal that this stuff happens, but it's so common that every individual story just seems obvious. It should def be recorded when we find those instances if not just for proof, but I personally just don't care about seeing it my news. Especially when it seems pretty off topic for the technology sub.

  • [DWM] true minimalism
  • I mean, I definitely consider my patched DWM as part of my dotfiles, just one that happens to be compiled. And if I can 1-up your pedantry, mine is in .local so it is literally in my "dot"files :P.

  • Utah sues TikTok, alleging it lures children into addictive and destructive social media habits
  • The mormon church explicitly told their members to vote no on legalizing gay marriage.

My grandfather died years earlier than he would've because the money they would've spent on treatment went to tithing, and the church refused to help.

I was bullied and isolated throughout my childhood because all the kids around me were taught by their church to be disgusted by me because I'm queer.

Utah is a shameless theocracy and the church's influence has done disgusting things everywhere I look, and as a final "fuck you" I'm probably going to have to move because of the increasing paranoia they're creating about trans people.

  • [proprietary] Professional DAW 'Studio One' is Now on Linux (Public Beta)
  • I think that's ridiculous. I vastly prefer FOSS and so I won't use this, but clearly professional software being ported to Linux is a big deal for Linux and its userbase.

Should we ban discussion about any distro that's not certified by the FSF? Should we ban news about proprietary Nvidia drivers?

  • (Question) Anyone here with an Adder WS from System76?
  • I use a Lemur Pro, and I'd recommend it for just about anyone who doesn't want to game haha. It just has Intel integrated graphics, and while it runs Minecraft perfectly well, that's about as much as you can push it.

The battery life on there is easily upwards of 10-12 hours being used lightly for some web browsing, word processing, etc. etc.. That's with Pop!_OS at least, which seems to be pretty power efficient.

I put QubesOS on there too and it only gets 4-5 max, but that's definitely just a Qubes thing and not the hardware's fault.

  • Fell asleep while wife was driving home last night, she went above and beyond by remembering how important this was to me...
  • Am I the only one here who doesn't see the big deal? Op probably had to glance at their phone for like 2 seconds. If you're going straight with no traffic I think that's an extremely common thing to do once and a while, even to just switch music or whatever.

  • I'm a nihilist and I don't think that's true whatsoever. At least to be a moral nihilist, it just means I don't believe in any metaethical framework (no "oughts")

Regardless of whether or not I think killing me would have or create some objectively bad property, I have an egotistical attachment to living, and of course I'm going to try to avoid it.

My ethics and my desires are related but different.

  • Will Pop! OS continue to be based on Ubuntu?
  • I can't make any predictions, but I might see a few problems with moving to debian. Flatpaks are a pretty good replacement for lots of apps, but especially with stuff like drivers for Nvidia cards (and supporting Nvidia so well is something Pop!_OS seems to like), you just can't get all the way with the debian repos.

I think if they were to move, imo it would be more realistic to use something like Fedora as a base.
