Risotto. Tomatoes and cheesy with olives. Simple and filling.
Also I ordered a busy people's box from Fairfeed and it's arriving tomorrow. 50 bucks for two serves each of soup, 2 mains and a side. Hoping I can use that in place of takeaway for late work nights
I made the black beans from this https://youtu.be/bnO7xZeUYvI?feature=shared with roasted sweet potato and avocado and a bit of cheese. With a beer...
I am hoping for a big fat pub steak (treat night)
Roasted pan full of tomatoes onion and garlic. Salt and pepper and paprika. Olive oil and vinegar. Bake until yummy.
Will half blitz and put through some pasta.
chana masala from here https://www.leannebrown.com/chana-masala/
Lots of great ideas for cheap easy meals
I made the chana masala tonight. Was great
I do something similar just in a normal pot. Kidney or red beans soaked. You can pop the in boiling water and let sit for an hour if you weren't organised enough to do it 8 hours before.
Boil beans for about 30 mins until half cooked. Then strain.
In that same saucepan add a Bit of oil, onions, tomato (or half a tin of tomatoes) brown rice, paprika and some stock powder and black pepper. Chili if you want
Budget 1:1 rice to beans and 2:1 water to rice mix. Add more at the end if you need.
Other then the veg all things you can buy in bulk and store. Really filling. Good mix of protein and carbs. Add some frozen veg through or cook and have some on the side. I find broccoli is the best at filling you up.
Pizza. Usually make the bases but picked up some at the shop today because I was not feeling it.
Topped with tomato pasta sauce, onion, capsicum, mushies, salami and an obscene amount of mozzarella. Nomnomnom.
The lamb version yesterday reminded me I had beef osso bucco in the freezer - here 'tis with broccoli and hidden cheesy polenta
This is the way.
Welcome aboard the good ship Tux 🐧
On Saibai Island in the Torres Strait, homes are already being inundated by king tides, the cemetery has been affected by erosion and sea walls have been built
For context the Torres Strait Islands are just off the north of Australia (the pointy bit to be precise) and are largely inhabited by first nations people. They are isolated geographically and rely on fishing and small scale gardening and farming to survive.
Old veggie sghetti...
Basically roasted a bag of cherry tomatoes, onions, garlic and some zucchini that was getting past prime. Lots of salt and pepper. Mixed through pasta with fetta. Added a tin of tuna because my brain has been foggy and I think I might need to up my protein game.
And because I can't estimate I have heaps for lunch tomorrow.
Yeah sounds like it was something similar. CloudFlare showed spikes in BGP announcements (the Border Gateway Protocol - basically how each network node knows it's neighbours and the route through that neighbourhood) when the system went down. So Optus stopped telling the world it existed and everything updated around it, shutting it out from the internet.
Mushroom risotto...onion garlic mushies, half a cup of rice, splash of wine, water and stock. With a good handful of parmesan at the end.
Added a dollop of creme fraiche toward the end because I happened to get some from the market last weekend. Extra creamy.
No pics cause it's in may belly.
I miss my mum. She's been dead a few years now, and was elderly and in poor health. And I am a grown up. But sometimes I just want to be able to lay down next to her again and feel safe. I really miss her.
I will be ok. Just needed to tell someone. And if I tell anyone here in my real world they will want to make it better or something and it can't be. It just is.
it is slow social media
Yeah good point. Which is good. It just takes some getting used to.
So this is a bit of a meta-question. I was going to post a question about tech (for context I am looking for a tablet/iPad to read journal papers) so I headed to the technology community. But all the posts are news articles and the description is along the lines of 'post happenings and innovations in tech...' so I chickened out. Same over at science and humanities (I was thinking a more acedemic community might be up for a convo about journal reading)...
I know Beehaw is really friendly and it probably wouldn't matter if I posted random questions in the "wrong" spot but I would like to be able to target my questions and convos and not just put everything in chat and AskBeehaw. But maybe that's the idea. News type posts by topic and convos in other communities to maximise the relatively small community?
I'm really interested to know what 'rules' other people use to decide where to post non-links. Or any more formal guidelines - Am I missing something?
Edit: and yeah I did (over)think about posting this in Beehaw support but I am more interested in hearing about other people's thoughts then asking a help question
A little thing. I had a rest day today. Read my book. Watched some old tv. Felt sad but managed to get myself out for a walk. I am so terrified of slipping back into depression I struggle to rest. But I stopped and looked at my to-do list I made for the weekend and I did it all. And I rested.
Just wanted to write that down so I remember it's ok
Fuuck. Yeah I think that might be the beginning
Hurricane Otis made landfall near Acapulco, Mexico, early Wednesday as a Category 5 storm, delivering what forecasters warned could be a “nightmare scenario” for Mexico’s southern coast as it threatens to cause catastrophic damage with destructive winds, heavy rainfall and storm surge.
From CNN link:
> Hurricane Otis made landfall near Acapulco, Mexico, early Wednesday as a Category 5 storm, delivering what forecasters warned could be a “nightmare scenario” for Mexico’s southern coast as it threatens to cause catastrophic damage with destructive winds, heavy rainfall and storm surge. > > Otis’ center slammed into Mexico’s coast around 12:25 a.m. local time with sustained winds of 165 mph, the National Hurricane Center said.
and this is the latest advisory from NOAA https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPEP3+shtml/250845.shtml
Apparently it built from a tropical storm to a Cat 5 in about 24 hours.
So I had a crash. My car has been assessed as a repairable write off and I have to decide if I push the insurer to repair or I take the payout. I owe no money but would be out of pocket to purchase new(ish). I was not intending to trade it in or sell in the foreseeable future.
I understand the process if I opt for a write off. If I push for repair I know it needs review and scutiny.
I am thinking of pushing for repair. Anyone else gone down that path? Any gotchas or experiences to share? I really am in two minds right now.
Edit: had long chat with the repairer and reviewed the damage and went with write off. Panels and all the suspension on one side was stuffed and needed replacement. The risk of other stuff being just out enough to cause future problems, and risk of issues from sitting out for months waiting on parts was just more than I wanted. Got a fair payout. Bye beasty. Thanks for crumpling so I didn't...
