  • I'm reading a book at the moment that gets into this site a bit:

Archaeology also shows that patterns of seasonal variation lie behind the monuments of Göbekli Tepe. Activities around the stone temples correspond with periods of annual superabundance, between midsummer and autumn, when large herds of gazelle descended on to the Harran Plain. At such times, people also gathered at the site to process massive quantities of nuts and wild cereal grasses, making these into festive foods, which presumably fuelled the work of construction. There is some evidence to suggest that each of these great structures had a relatively short lifespan, culminating in an enormous feast, after which its walls were rapidly filled in with leftovers and other refuse: hierarchies raised to the sky, only to be swiftly torn down again. Ongoing research is likely to complicate this picture, but the overall pattern of seasonal congregation for festive labour seems well established.

  • I feel like I could get flintknapping down pretty well.

  • I think that deep of bass is also one of those things that you really need a subwoofer to emulate anyway. You feel it in your chest as much as your ears.

  • Nice! I've never heard of Olivier doing much outside of Shakespeare, so I'll have to give this a watch.

(His Henry V is well worth a watch BTW)

  • Good pick! I was so bummed when I heard that was cancelled.

  • I'd like to play around with whatever alpha build they made for the original concept of Team Fortress 2.

I love the one that came out (it's probably my most played game of all time), but those first few screenshots before retooling were captivating when we'd already been waiting so long for the release.

  • Still my favorite entry into the series.

I remember I thought the reflections looked real when I was a kid, and I couldn't imagine how graphics could get much better.

  • In February 2015, Ackerman published a series of articles in The Guardian describing the Homan Square facility as "an off-the-books interrogation compound, rendering Americans unable to be found by family or attorneys while locked inside what lawyers say is the domestic equivalent of a CIA black site." Ackerman asserted that the Homan Square facility was the "scene of secretive work by special police units," where the "basic constitutional rights" of "poor, black and brown" Chicago city residents were violated. Ackerman asserted that "Chicagoans who end up inside do not appear to have a public, searchable record entered into a database indicating where they are, as happens when someone is booked at a precinct. Lawyers and relatives insist there is no way of finding their whereabouts. Those lawyers who have attempted to gain access to Homan Square are most often turned away, even as their clients remain in custody inside."

    Not offshore, but still.

  • Remember when y'all banned the word "fascist" as mods on /conservative.ee?

    God damn that was funny.

  • He's only here to piss you off.

He needs the attention you're giving him, because he never learned how to get it in a healthy way.

The argument is what he wants because it makes it look like there are two sides to the issue. There aren't two sides. Stop giving him what he wants. He doesn't care about facts or reality; he'll say whatever gets a rise out of you because he's a broken, seething husk of resentment who wants everyone to be as miserable as he is.

He loves wasting your time, because trolls are pathetic losers who have nothing better to do.

  • I can't grab it either. It keeps telling me to log in when I'm already logged in.
