The way I see it is the rules exist to improve the experience of the community. They set guidelines to help us achieve that. The rules aren't the final source of truth though, the quality of the community is.
So, if you see something that breaks the rules and is pulling the community down in doing so, use the report function, and highlight it.
If it's breaking a rule, but not harming the community, then just let it fly.
I have no interest in enforcing rules for the sake of rules. I see them more as guidelines for fostering a better community, and that's the lens through which I moderate.
Yay! 4.8 supports my camera! I can finally stop running darktable nightlies
Not many. I don't like the fructosey sweet flavour of most fruit. So I love tomatoes, but not much else...
Maybe this thread will help me :)
I used Dreaming Spanish, which uses natural comprehension and teaches entirely in Spanish, with no translation. It's not as fast as some alternatives, but it matches my learning style, and has given me a neutral accent when I speak
I assume so! If a bird expert can identify the bird from a given call, chances are, so can the bird pi (though not quite as accurately)
But they move in larger packs, and are more aggressive. No cat is safe from a flock of miners screeching at them!
For what it's worth, I've got a second birdpi set up at my partners house, and there are kookaburras there! And lots of noisy miners too! Those birds really live up to their name, they are really noisy!
Can confirm
Image description: A screenshot from a birdpi, a device that identifies birds by their song, and catalogues their activity vs the time of day. The image shows a small amount of activity from a Barn Owl at 10pm and 1am. It also shows a very large volume of activity at 7am from crows, and other Australian birds

Because lemmy.blahaj.zone is the instance where the community is hosted, and it ensures that instance defederation and other federation quirks don't stop the mod from seeing all of the reports.
There is no need for blahaj.zone to become the main account, just that they have one here to ensure they get a full view when they're moderating
Most of the current mods are inactive, so if you're interested in helping run this community, please drop me a line on matrix, via DM or here!
I'm looking for someone that has an established history both on the threadiverse, and within this community. Ideally, you'll already have a lemmy.blahaj.zone account, but if you do not, you will need to create an alt here
Yep, I get that. And the combat balancing in Owlcat games is something you either like or hate, so I wouldn't recommend the game itself for everyone. But whatever you think about the rule system or combat design, the characters are really well done!
Wrath of the Righteous. Hands down, the most interesting party member NPCs I've encountered in a CRPG.
Unique takes on stereotypes, and you find yourself invested in even the unlikable characters.
Digikam. It supports grouping (or stacking as it's called in Lightroom) by filename, so you can auto group RAW and JPG. It has hot keys for flagging rejects/approvals during initial inspections and review, so you can just fly through them.
Photoprism is not suitable as part of a post editing workflow. It's a gallery for displaying and searching your photos after they've been sorted and edited.
Hello waterfox
The alternate party member NPCs are generic stereotypes, and far less interesting for that. They don't hold a candle to the NPCs in something like Wrath of the Righteous, who subvert expectations in a wonderfullly interesting way.
There are two types of people that use slurs to talk about other folk.
The first group is made up of folk who don't give a fuck if they're hurting others.
The second group is made up of folk who don't realise the slur is a slur or don't understand why the slur is harmful.
The second group appreciates being informed about the consequences of their words so they can change course.
People in the first group that are pretending they're in the second group get angry when called out. But they were always the first group.

Blahaj.zone admin here. Let me make this simple and clear. I don't care what specific word you use, if you are using intellectual disability or neurodivergence as an insult, you're going to get moderated.

Today, I set up my new Birdnet-Pi,a raspberry Pi, running an app that detects and identifies birds by their calls. This is my first half day of recording birds.
Image description: A screenshot of the Birdnet Pi web interface. At the top, it shows a breakdown of birds from that day, sorted by species and time. In order of total number of occurrences, the birds listed are Torresian Crow, Australasian Figbird, Noisy Miner, Barn Owl, Rainbow Lorikeet and Blue-faced Honeyeater. Beneath the list of birds, it shows a waveform graphic for the audio of the latest bird call identitied by the system. In this instance, a Torresian Crow.

I'm growing more and more impressed with its capabilities the more I use it! Wrapping my head around its approach to masking, and its "scene referred pipeline" took some time, but now that I'm getting the hang of it, I think I can say I genuinely prefer it to Lightroom.
Combined with digiKam, which is excellent for photo collection management, I'm a very happy photographer :)

6 months ago, I asked about m43 for wildlife photography (https://lemmyverse.link/lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/5660675)
Today, I use an OM-1 MkII, and it is easily the best birding/wildlife camera I've ever owned. Would absolutely recommend it!
