People outside the US, how do you feel US expats or exiles would do in your country or region?
  • Well, yes of course. Some relatives have few foreigner coworkers and they seem to be happy. (tho I don't know them personally). Also I've met some foreigners through university and they seem to adapt well. But I guess it heavily depends on what kind of lifestyle you want to have.

People are usually warm and we appreciate it if you show interest in our culture and adapting here. You should be more than fine if you are mindful to that and better still if you are naturally outgoing. Good luck and hope you find a cool place to go, or things get better if you end up not moving.

  • Mexican here. Generally, most of the population won't be very welcoming. Talking specifically about mexico city. You see, the amount of money you make in tech in the US will allow you to stay at the very best places in the city, which pushes native people out of those districts and makes them angry in the process. However, those districts are already popular for tourists/rich immigrants and that's probably for a reason. I guess business there benefit from this wealth availability so they will treat you well. I'm not rich so idk. Also, it's probably not hard to emigrate here bureaucracy wise.

Speaking Spanish, you will likely do very well in mexico. Good food, good nightlife, good safety and infrastructure (assuming you stay in the good zones), etc.

Personally, having traveled to other countries (talking about US and places in Europe specifically), I love the diversity of nationalities you can find. I think different backgrounds and experiences is very important to drive innovation. I'd love to see more of that in my home country so I'm for more people emigrating to mexico. Feel free to ask questions if you are curious.

  • Yeal I get it, I find it hard to rely on online recommendations too. But still, I find it funny that I personally haven't seen any kagi comment and you have seen enough already to grow skeptical. Because of that, and because I have enjoyed using it, I wanted to share it. Could have gone deeper on the reasons I like it but it would sound more forced/advertisy imo (e.g. "For only xyz per month you get 100% private reliable results with xyz features. I have used it for xyz months and it has never failed" etc).

Still kinda annoying to get implied to be a bot/paid rando when sharing something cool but that's the web

Edit: I took a second looks to other comments and I can see that kagi is indeed mentioned quite a bit so nvm that. I'm glad to hear more people are starting to use it now :)

  • That's a fair point. The whole point of needing an account and paying for the service is that personal data plays no role in their business model. This requieres trust from their users but I'm willing to do so as fuck google (obv) and ddg and other alternatives I've tried give noticeable worse results...

  • Lol as if that tiny company could afford that kind of stuff. Also what do you mean unorganic as the thread in question is talking about search engines? Ironically, I commented the kagi suggestion cause I barely never see it mentioned in these threads and I genuinely find it super cool and I'd like more people to try it... guess you can't give suggestions anymore?

  • The family plan (w/ unlimited searches) is better value. Also the whole point of charging upfront is that personal data plays no role on its business model. Ofc there's still the risk of it being acquired but the userbase (even if small atm) is still growing and (allegedly) is now profitable.

  • Looking for people to share Nintendo online + expansion pack family plan membership

As the title says, I'm looking for people to share a family plan with. I currently have an individual membership, and I'll upgrade it to expansion family plan in the next few days. This upgrade will cost me around 64USD. I have 6 slots available, so it will cost 8USD (or 7.3EUR) to join. The membership would then end on 30/08/2025 (so in around 10.5 months) which is why I'm charging less than the 10USD per person that would cost if buying it brand new.

    Please PM/leave a comment if interested :)

[OC] Cool tram in Bergen, Norway

This is line 1 (out of 2). Goes from the city center all the way to the airport (and back) making several stops along Bergen's suburbs. Takes around 45 mins. Clean and spacious inside. Also very punctual on my limited times using it.

    Meanwhile in Rome

I was honestly surprised when I saw them. They must be so old but still operational. Was an interesting ride.
