  • The only thing I would say isn't 100% correct here is that the decision to require a Playstation account was made 6 months before the game launched, not after. Technical issues prevented the game from launching with the requirement actually implemented though, and from the abruptness of the original announcement, I would guess that the developers are the ones who actually had their "grace period" from Sony to get it implemented expire.

  • did they ever stop people logging on?

No, this wouldn't have happened until May 30th as the tweet mentions. Starting May 6th is when new players would have been required to sign up for a PSN account before playing the game for the first time.

Was this drama over a promise in the future?

Yes, nothing actually changed on the players' side of things. The announcement was made and subsequently backtracked on before any updates to the game were even pushed out. No one was blocked from logging in at any point, but they were told that without a PSN account by the end of May, they would have been.

  • I'm giving Linux gaming a shot, but I've run into a couple display issues
  • Popping in to give an update before calling it a night!

First of all, thank you for all the help! I've been reading through all the comments here and trying a few things out. The first thing I tried was switching the default desktop environment from the default Gnome to KDE. I much prefer KDE to Gnome since I have experience with it on the Steam Deck, so this is the solution that I had the most hope for. Sadly though, things are much worse in KDE. Unlike in Gnome, KDE has the terrible screen tearing that was mentioned in X11, but is still similarly unable to support running the monitors at different refresh rates. Since a lot of the comments here mentioned Wayland though, that was my real end goal in getting KDE installed. Unfortunately, witching over to KDE Wayland, things became significantly more unusable and it was about the same experience I had while trying to install Nobara. Both displays were totally unresponsive for seconds at a time and I was only able to interact with things during brief moments when they would stutter along instead. This was pretty painful to log back out of and was an overall mess like a couple of you had mentioned it might be.

I went back to Gnome after this. Since KDE didn't seem to be they way forward, I figured I might as well try enabling Wayland on Pop_OS's built in solution. Wayland support was hidden by default on NVIDIA as mentioned, but one quick config edit later and the option appeared. Things seem to be going much better now! I'm running Gnome Wayland right now and while things aren't flawless yet they're significantly better than before. Both monitors are working at their full refresh rates now without any screen tearing or flickering. As for gaming, so far I only have Helldivers 2 installed running through Proton, and performance is about 8% worse than in Windows on the same graphics settings while on the ship. I am also getting an odd visual bug where the in-game menu looks like it opens and closes very quickly every once in a while. It's not actually open or intractable though, it's more like the game randomly displays a single frame from when I did have the menu open to change the graphics settings. Tomorrow I'll try enabling Proton experimental and see if that fixes anything, and also try installing some more games.

I'll come back again to give an update on how things are going then! I'm still lacking HDR and there are other bugs that look like they need to be ironed out, but I'm much more optimistic about this than I was before. I think I'll keep dual-booting for now, at least while I'm still trying to get everything working properly, and hopefully that next version of Pop_OS brings HDR support. For now, it's at least nice to know that different monitor refresh rates are working.

  • I'm giving Linux gaming a shot, but I've run into a couple display issues

I'm dual booting Pop\_OS and Windows 11 for now while l try things out. I went with Pop\_OS for the NVIDIA drivers, since I have a NVIDIA card. Installation went smoothly, but setup is where things started to get a little weird.

I have 2 monitors, a main 360hz monitor and a secondary 165hz monitor. I seem to be able to have them both working at the same time in Windows 11 without issue, but in Pop\_OS, setting the refresh rate to 360hz on the first monitor causes both displays to stop working properly. The 360hz monitor will stop displaying picture all-together, and the 165hz monitor will start flickering wildly. Turning off the second monitor brings the 360hz's image back, but then I'm down a monitor. Also, if I set the refresh rate to anything lower than 360hz, they'll both work. I'd like to still be able to use it at the native refresh rate, but I can't seem to find any other solutions or anyone else who seems to have had this same issue.

My second (slightly less annoying) issue is that I can't seem to use HDR in games. Is this normal, or is there something I can do to bring back support?

Also, if Pop\_OS isn't the way to go, please let me know! I tried Nobara first, but immediately had issues with the displays locking up and flickering before I even got it installed.

I've just discovered that my monitor of the last 2 years (HP X27q) supports HDR 400. Not great, but an improvement over SDR nonetheless, I'd say. Only problem is, when I enable it, the monitor begins

I've just discovered that my monitor of the last 2 years (HP X27q) supports HDR 400. Not great, but an improvement over SDR nonetheless, I'd say. Only problem is, when I enable it, the monitor begins to emit a very high pitch whining noise. It's incredibly quiet, so quiet I didn't notice it for a few days. But now that I know it's there, it's definitely there and I can't go back to not hearing it. What in the world is going on with the HDR setting?

Is it at all possible to use Android Auto in a car that only supports Apple CarPlay?

I might be completely misunderstanding the way Android Auto/CarPlay function. They're both essentially just screen projections from your phone to the in-car display, right?

Since my car only supports CarPlay, is there any way for me to "trick" it into thinking I have an iPhone plugged in and get it to allow my phone to display the Android Auto interface on the screen instead?

Is anybody else still waiting for their Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro to ship?

I made a post about this a couple weeks ago as well, but my order for the 4 Pro still hasn't shipped and I haven't seen any email updates from Elegoo either. I placed my order back on August 6th with shipping from the US warehouse for delivery in August. There's still a bit of time left in the month, but if it hasn't shipped yet, it doesn't seem very likely it will arrive by then.

I searched around and found a relevant comment by their support account on Reddit. They said they would send out an email on Thursday to let people know when to expect August orders to ship, but that email was never sent as far as I can tell. I suppose I'm glad it's not a problem with my order specifically and Elegoo is aware something is wrong, but I'm starting to get concerned about the lack of any updates all month. Anybody else here in the same boat waiting for it to ship?

I've linked an article from a week ago here, but the content is still relevant as the attack is ongoing.

I don't work in tech, but I do bookkeeping for real estate associations. On the morning of Wednesday, August 9th, I found myself unable to log into Rapattoni MLS, and ever since then it's been almost complete silence from them. It's been almost 2 whole weeks without access now and over a week since the company last put out a statement.

    Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro Shipping?

Last Saturday I ordered a Neptune 4 Pro from Elegoo's US site and I'm super excited to upgrade from my Anycubic Mega S. I'm still waiting on it to ship though and was wondering what Elegoo's shipping timelines usually look like for these. I'd read that they usually ship from their warehouse 1-3 business days after ordering, but since I'm on day 4 now I was hoping to see what other people's experiences have been.
