  • To clear up some confusion, the soldiers and police who were burned and lynched at Muxidi were unarmed. The government responded on June 3-4 with an armed crackdown. The armed crackdown also encountered firebombs, but @Nakoichi@hexbear.net was referring to the earlier attacks at Muxidi.

  • I would be careful with this particular point (emphasis mine):

200-300 people died in clashes in various parts of Beijing, around June 4 — and about half of those who died were soldiers and cops..

The article does not say where the "half" figure comes from or give evidence for soldier deaths being that high. The estimate is only mentioned briefly in passing.

Some calculations have up to half the dead being PLA soldiers trapped in their armored personnel carriers, buses and tanks as the vehicles were torched.

  • Worth adding, to clear up a point of possible confusion — There is no evidence for deaths in the square itself. There were deaths elsewhere in the city that night, but these were violent clashes in which soldiers also died, and the death toll was in the low hundreds, not thousands. This is what we're all saying in this thread.

every single person who served in the IDF deserves to die, no exceptions
  • No one on this site sincerely hates all white people or all straight people, I guarantee their real feelings are more nuanced than that. People make those blunt statements out of frustration and exhaustion, and hexbear should be a safe place to vent like that.

imagine being as out of touch as a liberal celebrating the Biden economy

    contrast that with reality:

    https://ssti.org/blog/large-percentage-americans-report-they%E2%80%99re-struggling-make-ends-meet (May 2023)

    > Almost 40% of American adults report they struggle to make ends meet each month, an increase from 34.4% in 2022 and 26.7% in 2021.

    https://usafacts.org/data-projects/housing-costs (May 2023)

    > 50% of renters and 21% of homeowners spend ≥ 30% of their income on housing, while 25% of renters and 9% of homeowners spend ≥ 50% of their income on housing.

    https://www.fool.com/the-ascent/research/average-monthly-expenses/ (Sep 2023)

    > The average US household spends 29% of their income on housing, 15% on transport, 11% on food, 11% on insurance and pensions, 7% on healthcare, and 2% of education

That adds up to around 76% of income spent on necessities.

I guess I'm too online, because these threads take something out of me. Cassa posted this one because she saw a user on 196 claim there can be no true democracy under capitalism.

The comments are what you expect. All agree that we're psychopaths who support genocide and just want authority as a goal in itself. All agree we do no leftist praxis, I guess just based on vibes. One user wrote:

    > let’s be honest, they should be removed from society

which is cool. One-on-one, online or in person, I'm pretty patient with people like this, but when I see a whole thread like this with hundreds of upvotes and no pushback it makes me feel tired.

I'm doing the flattened Bernie face reading this. The context is they're dismayed by the "Everyone in Gaza is supposed to evacuate in 24 hours" announcement, but then they fabricate like 4 genocides

No one rounded up and killed Tibetans as an ethnicity, or Uyghurs (even the fucking US state department concedes this), or North Koreans (unless they mean the American bombings and sanctions, but I bet $10 that's not what they mean), or ethnic groups in the Soviet Union (most historians, even those who vehemently denounce Stalin, agree the famine was not a deliberate genocide, read the preface to the Years of Hunger by Davies and Wheatcroft)

At least they oppose the genocide of Palestinians. I'll take what I can get at this point.
