Just Plain Terrifying

I was cleaning out a chemical storage closet at work. A hydrogen chloride container leaked out onto some iodine containers. I picked one up (bare handed) and sat it down in the grass. About thirty seconds later, I noticed the steam boiling up from around the bottom of the container. This is about 45 seconds worth of contact.

Automation
  • When I got out of the military, my outprocessing included a briefing about how to get interviews with federal organizations. One thing they taught us was that you can copy the job description, paste it into your resume, and set the font to white. The automated systems at USA Jobs would register a match to the job description and rate you as a better candidate and the human screeners were so overworked that they would just go with what the computer says without checking.

  • Supposed Scientists

I held on to hope that this would be satire way too long. Then I remembered what group I was on.

    Bob-onic plague

There are so many layers of fuckery here. For instance, 1. Bobonic Paige isn't a thing, 2. Plague doctors with scythes weren't superadvanced reptiles spreading poison during the middle ages, 3. The bubonic plague isn't viral anyways, 4. What the fuck are you taking about????

I can't believe these things are still being published

There's this whole Jack Chick knockoff world that has been around for decades despite having the worst arguments.

Kyle Rittenhouse storms off stage after being confronted by students
  • Thank you. People seem to love pretending like reality is a team sport, which is stupid. I also find it infuriating that I can't just find the raw videos instead of the first 800 results being edited and talked over commentaries from people trying to make a buck.

  • That's a terrible excuse

At first, I thought this was satire. It wasn't. He's seriously asserting this as a response to The Problem of Evil.

This is why I subscribe to religious groups

Seriously. The thread has a plot thicker than a soap opera.

    Ring finger interactions with pinkie

I recently heard that the nerves controlling the pinkie and ring finger are intertwined to the degree that it's almost impossible for most people to move the pinkie and ring fingers without the other. Does it count as "independent" if one twitches while the other does the real moving? I think I may finally be special!

Anyone got KSP2 running on Linux?

I spent so many hours playing the original KSP on Linux, only to be gravely disappointed by their decision to cut out Linux from KSP2. Has anyone got it working through proton or the like?

    Good alternatives to hoppy.network

I loved using hoppy.network to build a tunnel to my VM on my home server over the last year, but there are better options than 8 dollars a month. The service needs to be available to the wider internet, but run on my home server. I can use Linode to get the job done at 5 a month, but my home server is an 8 core, 16 thread Zen with 24 gigs memory and that's a single, low-priority Linode instance with less storage than my server has working memory. I've considered using Tailscale, but that solution strikes me as hacky. Any suggestions?
