Karlach is a throwing Berzerker, with Thief mixed in later.

Wyll is a Paladin/Warlock smite machine.

Gale is an Abjuration Wizard, possibly with one level of Tempest Cleric.

The rest hang out at camp.

  • Are all phone calls voip (voice over Internet protocol) now?
  • Depends on where you live, I believe. But I imagine there would be some VoIP at some point if you're calling any significant distance.

Even cell carriers in the American midwest have mostly switched over. I think partly because maintaining the infrastructure for traditional tech is costly, and VoIP has potential for higher-quality sound.

  • Apple, SpaceX, Microsoft return-to-office mandates drove senior talent away
  • What people don't understand is that this is exactly what C-level management wants.

Senior talent costs senior pay. On paper, a junior employee looks much the same as a senior one, and costs significantly less. Cutting salary costs by 20 or 30% is a higher-up's wet dream.

It also means that those remaining are the ones not questioning or pushing back against management (or at least not as much). Whether from a "manager" mindset, apathy, or dependence on the paycheck, the remaining employees are more likely to accept further enshittification (such as not backfilling the now-empty senior roles and having existing employees take on the extra work for no extra pay).

Executives aren't stupid, they're just working toward completely different goals than the people doing the actual work. And RTO mandates are directly in line with their goal: pump up short-term profits (at the expense of long-term stability and growth).

An Idea to Steal Regarding Courts and Sentencing

In one advanced culture, which has largely achieved pacifism through technological and cultural advancements, legal cases are heard by judges who have studied law and ethics extensively. Their maximum sentencing, though, is limited to temporary incarceration. For more severe sentences, such as permanent incarceration or death, the case is brought before the Matrial Seats.

The Matrial Seats is a group of seven volunteers who have physically borne and lost children. Only those who have brought life into the world, and felt the terrible loss of it, have sufficient authority to pass the most severe sentences. Unlike the General Courts, the Matrial Seats are not specially educated, and contain members from various social standings.

[Solved] Posting and Commenting Not Working Since Lemmy.world Updated

Update: at the recommendation of others, I logged out and back in again. Seems to be working!

Loving Eternity, thanks devs for all your work!

Lemmy.world updated today to 0.19.3, I think? Since then, I can load posts, but I can't vote, comment, or create new posts. When I attempt to do any of those, an empty toast bubble shows up, and that's it.

    Anyone else experiencing the same?

A Very Accessible OP Lightning Build

Forgive me if this is well known already, but I don't think I've seen it posted here yet.

The lightning mage build is pretty well known, involving adding in two levels of Tempest Cleric for the channel divinity that maxes out lightning/thunder damage. And it's been noted that getting lightning vulnerability is easy with a bit of water. But what I haven't seen is trying to double things with a crit.

So why not mix in a few levels of Rogue? Here's the final split:

    Assassin Rogue 3 / Tempest Cleric 2 / Blue Draconic Sorcerer 7

Assassin gives us access to easy crits on a surprise round. Taking Cleric to 2 and Sorcerer to 7 gets us a 5th level spell slot.

The crux of this setup is the Witch Bolt spell. The Assassin feature only works with an attack roll--most of your other lightning spells are saves. Witch Bolt also scales really well (1d12 per spell level).

So here's the math, assuming you're able to get a surprise round and throw some water:

    • Base damage: 5d12 (using your 5th level slot)
    • Double dice on auto-crit: 10d12
    • Channel divinity: 120 (max damage)
    • Draconic Sorcerer 6th level damage rider: +4 (assuming 18 CHA)
    • Vulnerability: x2 for a total of 248 damage
    • Two targets? Twinned Spell because why not

Note that my screenshot was using a 4th level slot and using a Wild Magic instead of Draconic Sorcerer. Mainly there to show that the math seems to work in game as I've proposed here.

Mixing in the Assassin makes sense for the lightning combo build as well: you can initiate combat by throwing water, then you instantly get your actions back to sling spells. And the other Rogue bonus action skills are helpful to get into position and land other attack-roll spells (by hiding first).

The build is viable at every level, too. Levels 1 to 3 are Rogue to Assassin, pretty straight forward. Next are two levels of Cleric, so now you're an Assassin with Sanctuary, Armor of Faith, and Bless. Then on level 6, you start adding in the lightning, and your nova builds from 100 damage (pretty respectable for level 6), going up by 48 every two levels after that.

You've got lots of flexibility here too. Want access to 2nd level Cleric spells instead of 4th level Sorcerer? Go with Assassin 3 / Tempest 3 / Draconic 6. Want more feats? Sacrifice a bit of damage and go with Assassin 4 / Tempest 4 / Draconic 4 to get three feats. Want to get two (slightly lesser) novas per short rest? Go Assassin 3 / Cleric 6 / Draconic 3.

Thoughts? Any other big nova builds that don't require an overly-specific setup?

What games did you make up as a kid?

    Here's one of mine:

    Jenga Fortress

Split Jenga pieces equally and sit in a large circle (on the floor or at a big table). Everyone has one piece that is marked. Then everyone builds a fortress to protect their marked piece (the marked piece must be stood up on its small side).

Everyone gets a projectile. We liked using those thick rubber bands that came on broccoli at the grocery store, but you could use Nerf guns, balled up paper, whatever--as long as it's not too light and not too heavy.

Once everyone is ready, take turns firing at each other's fortresses, trying to knock down their marked pieces. Nobody can touch their fortress at this point.

Last marked piece standing is the winner.

    What's your favorite OP build?

For my first run, I focused largely on engaging the roleplay elements and didn't worry too much about optimization.

For my tactician run, I'm attempting to utilize about as much OP shenanigans in my party as possible, and I'm having a great time with it so far. What are your favorite OP builds to actually play?

Bonus points if they're viable all the way through the game without respec-ing.

    My party:

    Smiter: Paladin 5 / Warlock 7

Progression: P2 -> W5 -> P5 -> W7 Starting stats: 16, 10, 14, 8, 10, 16 Feats: PAM/GWM/Cha+2, Cha+2 Equipment: 2H weapon, best heavy armor, anything that grants advantage Notes: Smite with warlock slots. Subclasses don't matter much, but choose Pact of the Blade (extra attack stacks with Paladin's). Alternates: P5/W5/F2 for action surge.

    Thrower: Berserker 6 / Thief 3 / Champion 3

Progression: B5 -> Ro3 -> F3 -> B6 Starting stats: 17, 14, 16, 8, 10, 8 Feats: Tavern Brawler (Str+1) Equipment: Sword-and-board, best medium armor, throwing bonuses Notes: Throw everything and everyone. Keep a few nice magic 2H weapons for bonus throws. Alternates: B6/R4/F2 or B8/R4 for additional feats.

    Sniper: Assassin 3 / Gloomstalker 5 / Champion 4

Progression: Ro3 -> Ra5 -> F4 Starting stats: 14, 16, 16, 8, 12, 8 Feats: Sharpshooter, Dex+2 Equipment: Dual hand crossbows, best light armor (until later...), anything sneak- or surprise-related Notes: If surprising a group, drink a haste potion and end the encounter solo. Alternates: Any combination of A3/G5/F2 or A3/G3/F5 seems viable.

    Bear: Moon Druid 12

Starting stats: 14, 10, 17, 8, 16, 8 Feats: Tavern Brawler (Con+1), Warcaster, Wis+2/Resilient (Con+1) Notes: Be a bear. Enough said. Alternates: D7/C5--cast Spirit Guardians before assuming bear form.

Is there a reason the entire environment isn't paused during combat?

For the record, BG3 has completely blown me away and I'm already a huge fan, and I'm only just finishing Act 1. This is my biggest criticism, but it's a relatively small thing.

So when you enter turn-based mode outside of combat, the environment has its own "turn" in the initiative order. But during regular combat, the environment continues while everyone in combat is "paused." Any reason they didn't do the same "environment turn" in combat? I think they sort of did (at the end of initiative is when fire spreads, for example).

For me, it's a bit immersion-breaking. For example, I sent my rogue to distract and lead away a large group of enemies, so the rest of my party could sneak past. But I didn't have to lead them far, because once they got a few steps away, I could switch to my other party members (who weren't in combat) and they easily snuck past the "paused" enemies. I know if they had been seen, they'd have joined initiative, but it was super easy to avoid that because the enemies were frozen in place, so avoiding sightlines was trivial.

Wizard, Elementary Magic: master the basics

You like cantrips? I like cantrips! Is it excessive? Maybe!

I'm not a big fan of the optional rules that allow casters to swap cantrips, as it seems to run against the lore of cantrips themselves. And there are some amazing options that are often passed over because of their niche use cases. This subclass is designed to allow you to live all your cantrip dreams!

Comments and feedback are always appreciated.
