Most of the trick-or-treaters have been skipping my house, and I finally figured out why
  • Why would you automatically doubt this? You are aware there are other places outside where you live, and different things happen there, right?

  • The most British individual
  • Théderboard

  • MAGA congressman says top priority is shutting down FEMA like the Department of Education
  • Sorry, but isn't that exactly the batshit stuff they're accusing? Citizens of those states deserve the same benefits, no matter how dumb they or their leaders are

  • Trump bizarrely claims nobody knows his Democratic rival’s last name (it’s Harris)
  • I mean I hate him, but I didn't get that from this. To me it sounded like he was suggesting that her newfound supporters know very little about her, that they are fair-weather followers or something. It's easy to imagine that one of his yes-men showed him a clip of a rally where somebody was fumbling for her last name, and he just took that idea and magnified a single example of something into "nobody knows", like he always does.

  • Anon drinks milk
  • My partner and I once went as Leon and Matilda for Halloween. I finished off a quart of milk and filled it with pre-mixed negroni cocktai to sneak it into a party as part of my costume. Boy howdy, I was so drunk I was speaking in tongues at the end of the night.

  • Biden Drops Out of Race
  • It's called tracking when you refer to the vertical spacing. That's what stands out to me as not so good.

  • Mildred
  • Lol, Edith and Mildred are literally my grandmothers' names. Edith is a badass and just turned 99.

  • Rule one of the road : Never trust an idle car.
  • The door was opened normally by the driver, it was just forced open the rest of the way by the motorcycle.

  • The debate gets interesting sometimes
  • So do (did) Palestine

  • Every day.
  • I can only speak about the US, but sadly, the unhoused die of hunger, preventable disease, and exposure all the time here. And unemployment does not cover a 1 bedroom apartment in major cities, nor does it qualify you for the outrageous requirements of most leases. You may be right about the status of the poor in the EU though.

  • Every day.
  • They eat cleaner food and have more amenities than a King, but they certainly don't live better. The point of the article is that the rising tide is floating a few boats wayyyy higher than the rest, and the overall growth does not justify the fact that people still die of hunger, get evicted while working multiple jobs, fall ill and are saddled by medical dept for life (US only), and shit like that.

  • "You can see the future first in San Francisco." OpenAI alumnus Leopold Aschenbrenner pours out a worshipful paean to the AI future, just as if GPT wasn't topping out its S-curve
  • MBA idiots and Economists consistently overestimate the abilities (and the underlying nature) of AI, because the output of AI is so much like how they speak: eloquent, confidently wrong, unconcerned with ground truth. They see themselves in AI, and they consistently overestimate themselves and their abilities.

  • CW: New York Times report finds israel systematically rapes Palestinians, sometimes to death.
  • You just said the word tho

EDIT: sorry, not trying to be snarky. You're right, but your misstep points out the problem

  • CW: New York Times report finds israel systematically rapes Palestinians, sometimes to death.
  • I am truly sorry if I hurt any feelings. I honestly was not aware that we as a society decided that using that word is insensitive. I (34M) was sexually assaulted when I was 8, FWIW, and I understand that words have power. I just didn't get the memo in this case.

What is the considerate way to title this post?

  • CW: New York Times report finds israel systematically rapes Palestinians, sometimes to death.
  • I'm not OP, and it's literally in the title. Be an adult.

EDIT: I obviously don't understand what the issue even is, because you just said rape. Is the word okay for comments but not titles? Or is the problem that you don't have the reading comprehension skills to read the word in the title and infer the nature of the content behind the link?

  • CW: New York Times report finds israel systematically rapes Palestinians, sometimes to death.
  • If your delicate sensibilities can't handle reading this, imagine how these prisoners feel. This SHOULD shock you, and maybe that shock will motivate you to action against it.

  • New homeowner, just sorta winging it...

Having never owned a house or really had a yard of my own, I got pretty excited and decided to do some ad-hoc landscaping. Built some raised beds for vegetables, and just laying in some organic shaped in-ground beds for low water decorative plants. Gonna fill the rest in with gravel. Any pointers?

Unhinged leaflet found on my car windshield

I found this leaflet on my car windshield the other day in Highlands area. The author (possibly homeless) seems to have a paranoid delusion about a government conspiracy forcing his wife to divorce him and marry another man. Pretty clearly a person with untreated mental illness, and sad on its own.

What's weird is that when I researched the name, I found posts on Reddit (won't link here) reporting similar leaflets appearing in DC, Iowa, Oklahoma, Utah, and elsewhere going back at least a year. Anyone else find a similar note? Is this a real person, or is it some troll printing copypasta?

My reasonable defense in the case of a homeless man who has just married in my house I oppose the law of government in the United States of America. My name is Tuan Pham' on the radio network, thanks.
